Default Navigation Install Question

My 2008 vert doesn't have Navigation. I purchased a used Navigation head unit from another 2008 and installing it into my 2008. Both cars have the same options. Bose, steering wheel controls, XM and HUD. When I bring the car to the dealership for them to program (flash) it is the dealership going to need the VIN from the car the navigation came out of to program it to my car?

I have done this with other GM vehicles and did not need the donor vehicle present.

I just installed mine yesterday and immediately took it to the dealer to have it "unlocked". The technician said that he did not need the VIN, he explained that he "wiped out" the donor cars information and then entered my cars information.

As a practical matter, it doesn't hurt to have the VIN on the off chance that someone at the dealership questions, "just where did you get this?"

A dealer is supposed to verify the legitimacy of the used unit (bill of sale for example). However, most do not. The dealer wil not need you to provide the VIN, it is all ready coded in the unit.

To the OP im just curious prior to you getting the dealer to program it to work in your car did the nav units screen go up and down when you pressed the eject button? (even while theft lock was activated?)
I just installed a used OEM nav in my 06 and the screen went down the very first time I pressed the button now it wont go up or down at all (wont do anything when I hit the eject button). Im trying to determine if the unit is defective or if this is normal that the screen will not move while in theft lock mode.

Thanks,
James

After my install the unit screen would not work while in theft lock mode. I was wondering the same thing too. After programming everything worked fine. I love the Nav unit in my car.

Hey gang ~ I just installed an 06 unit in my 05 but I'm afraid that I may have a bad unit. I haven't had the dealer program the unit yet but currently I have a blank screen. There is no theft banner or anything. I can hear xm stations and the touch screen appears to be changing the channels as I can see the station on the HUD. The buttons on the left, volume and open/disc load button do not work. Please tell me that all these issues will be resolved with the dealers programing device??

My open/disc load button didn't work until I had it programmed but the screen on mine did say theft lock or something to that affect. I can't remember if I could hear the volume or not.
