Default z06 reliability

Hello everyone,
I am new to this forum and I am looking at a 2006 z06 with 45,000 miles and was wondering what everyone opinion is? Do the cars have any major problems? What should I look for when I get to inspect the car? Will it be dependable enough for a daily driving? I only put about 8k to 10k a year on a car. thanks for any input

Just throw my 2 cents in since no one else has replied yet. I personally do not own a Z06 but I have driven them plenty and I do own a 2008 C6 Coupe. For a daily driver some would say a Z06 is a little to much of a car but others will say they don't have a problem with it. If it were me I would get a newer C6 coupe with less miles if you want a good daily driver. I am not saying a Z06 wouldn't be reliable because it would be but a regular C6 coupe would have just the right amount of power to fuel consumption ratio to be a great daily driver. I am in no way knocking a Z06 and I would own one if I didn't use my vette as a daily driver like I use my current coupe. Hope that helps a little bit but I am sure some Z06 owners will chime in here any minute. Good Luck

Welcome to the Forum!!!!!!!! Congratulations on your Z!! Enjoy the car and the Forums.

That is a lot of miles for a Z, hope the price is right to reflect that. Anyway, we don't get too much Z discussion here since they have their own Forum section. I see you also have this posted in the C6 Z06 Forum so hopefully you will get the right info there.

What I know about, the '06's were plagued by a couple problems with specific groups of cars: one was bad valve springs, the other was bad rocker arms. Since I know very little specifics, check this for good info:

Good luck.

My 08 Z has about 13k miles on it and no problems, never had a warranty call.

I have on 06 Coupe with 38k miles, that is equally reliable except for the diff clutch pack noise. I put the additive in and it helped a lot but the noise is still there when cold. Driver door has a interrmittent rattle and does not close as easily as it should, but dealer was unable to resolve it. I'll take a stab at it myself when I get time.

I would suggest posting a price too. If mileage is a concern there have been numerous posts with low mileage 06's for great prices. Just keep your eyes open and jump when they come up. I would have no issues driving a Z everyday if I could. Unfortunately my job prohibits me from doing so. Just because the car has 45K on it means nothing if it has been properly maintained. Get the service history if possible. Verify the warranty history with a local Chev Dealership as well to ensure what has been done to the car and that mileage progression is correct etc. If it all checks out then buy with confidence. If its been driven 45K already then i see no reason why another 100K isn't feasible Good luck.

It was not the 2006, it was the 2007 Z06 with these problems.

Yeah I was gonna say your mistaken there. It was the 07's that had a rocker arm bearing issue, it was a few month run and overall relatively uncommon. The 06's are pretty damn solid only known issue was the roof seperation other than that nothing serious.

My daily driver 06Z06 is over 4 years old and nearly 42k miles so far. It is the most reliable corvette I have ever owned. Nothing ever fails on it. Except the roof. Took nearly 4 years before the roof started to separate and my local dealer replaced with a new panel with SMC plastic. The original 05-early 07 C6 painted roofs were made of polycarbonate plastic which GM discovered later will not stayed permanently attached to the underlying metal roof structure. If you are looking at any C6 painted roof vette in this model year span, check and make sure the roof has been totally replaced with one of SMC plastic.

To respond to the OP about reliability.

I take very good care of my 07Z but I still know my service manager on a first name basis. Nuff said on my opinion about reliability (and quality). Still, it brings a smile to my face every time I drive it.

I hear the LS7 is only good for about 100,000 miles b efore somewhat needing a rebuild. is this true? If so, I wouldn't buy a Z. Can anyone clear this up?

actually it was an adhesive issue and mine was ok for the first 18months...got it fixed under warranty with a new panel and the old adhesive and its been perfect..

Well the tires have been replaced at least once so look for crappy cheap ones on the car. Clutch is always a concern with manual cars. Have the history checked real good, look for accident damage, new parts, etc, etc, etc. I never heard a modern GM V8 engine go bad unless it was modded.

No basis really. Just remember reading on here somewhere the Ls7 (being a extra high performer) won't make it as long as an LS3 or LS2. Might just be bull. Makes a little sense anyway. Maybe I just took what was said the wrong way.
