There is a company that does such conversions... If I remember correctly, the cost was around $12,000, and of course it voids any powertrain warranty on the Z06.
Get a base C6 and modding it will be cheaper than converting a Z to an automatic (and alot less hassle I might add). Plus you will be just as fast as a Z if not faster. If its not the speed of a Z you are after then opt for a GS, looks like a Z and is available in auto to suit your needs.
Call RPM Transmission in Indiana, they do them, and all they do is Trans work for high performance cars, especially vettes. Not cheap though that is for sure$$$$
Anything can be done w/ A LOT of money. Where are you?
Grand Sport A6 won't do it for you I take it?
unless you're getting an inexpensive '06 Z06 and then adding the auto trans, the question above is a good one. a new, or newer/used Grand Sports has the Z06 body and can be ordered with an automatic trans. total money in could work out to be the same. once you fool with that Z06, not only does the powertrain warranty go out the window, the value decreases as well.
If he's savvy enough to know what a Z06 is versus a GS or other model, then that means he's got a Z06 fever and nothing else will do it for him.... Not even more cowbell....
Spoiled 996 just had it done to his Z06 by one of the best Corvette transmission guys around (RPM). I would PM him and find out what that set him back and then contact Rodney.
With the right gearing, brace, shift points and upgraded torque converter, you can't shift faster of better than an auto can... And you can always manually shift an auto, when you wanted to. Personally, I don't think putting in an auto would devalue the car any more than installing most of the other bolt-ons people do.....
