Ford dealer is right and here is proof, drain the oil and let it drain completely, put the plug back in and take the filter off and then remove the plug again and you won,t believe all of the oil that will come out!
We have several vehicles I change the oil in and I have noticed that a complete 30 minute drainout means I can add another half quart of oil to get to level. This seems especially true in Toyota trucks and with synthetic oil. Same with the C6.
My oil gets changed with the vehicle level since I noticed that can make a difference as well.
I always remove the filler cap and even pull the dip stick first. Then I remove the drain plug and then the oil filter. I go do something else for at least 20 minutes.
I wonder if maybe the GM mechanic didn't bother to replace the oil filter?
** Here's a tip I learned from one of my buddy's, before I put the new oil filter in I fill it about 3/4 full with new oil. This is supposed to protect against oil starvation at the first start up after an oil change. I don't know if it's true but it sure can't hurt. Sounded logical to me.
Ford mechanics are some of the best mechanics in the world. Fords are high maintenance and the mechanics get lots of experience. Chevrolet mechanics are more like Maytag repair men, they have to buy new pants because they wear out the rearend.
