Does anyone remember last fall when people were posting that the dealerships were selling the last of the 08's and supposedly they were only charging around 30-32k +tax? I swear I remember this, and I am wondering how that didn't drive the price of used vettes down, since people are still asking high 30's for base level vettes... Do you think they will do this again if sales are slow? ALSO- big question here.... Im WILL be buying a vette before summer 2011 but I am stuck between an 03-04 ZO6 and 05-06 c6. Any comments? I have done a lot of research and think the removable top and new styling is nice, but straightline performance wise how far off is the ls2 from the c5Z? Any reason to buy one or the other? Do the c5 Z's have issues? The ONLY mods I plan on at all are intake/exhaust, I want the rest to be stock for the most part. Thanks for any comments or info!
I don't know about the '08's and their respective pricing, but on the C6 vs. '03-04 Z06 I can help you there:
I was looking at the same issues only an '04 Z06 vs a newer '06 C6 .
Point was: the '04 Z car had the old style hidden headlights, I did not like those any longer after having 3 of the '90's ZR-1's with the same lights.
The 04 body style was too old looking for me and I wanted as many new electronic goodies as I could get as well. I also did not like the Z interior at all.
The hp was the same, so that did not enter into it. The C6 is overall more refined even if I did get one with Z51 and a six speed manual. But I also got the 3LT, navi, chrome wheels and all of the other newer electronic items. The Z car had an asking of $28,500 and that was rock bottom as we started arm wrestling in the low 30's. It had 16,000 miles, was the Commemorative blue & loaded , which I could care less about! Guy loaded it up with chrome everywhere..!!
So I bought the C6 with 9,000 miles on it for $30k
and I am not sorry one bit. I put a Maganaflow cat back on it and it purrs just fine. Someday in the next few years I will get a newer Z06, but not a GS. I hate the want-to-be aspect of the GS. After my having 3 of the original wide bodies, why buy a poser!!!
If you can get a nice stock C5Z take it, I loved mine, I bought an 08 1lt coupe with an a6, I bought it last march with 170 miles on it for 36K, it could not compare to the Z.
I bought the GS 6 speed to cover up the mistake of the c6 a6 coupe, I do hope I will be happy with the new car when I drive it.
I decided to wait for may to drive my GS.......it still has 8 miles on it.
You might give a little more than 30 min for the answer. Unfortunately I can't help you with your questions. I did own an 05 C6, and did not have a problem with it.

i saw them go for ~39k,but I think you're mistaken on the $32k. I'm on here literally every day & I never saw them for what you remember.
The lowest that '08's got brand new was around 38k (from looking at dealer inventory a year ago). I always found it a bit strange that people could ask 32k for a 35k mile '06 (a car that is worth 26k), but then again if demand is high and supply is low, prices will be high. I expect the base c6's price to get back to something normal only after the c7's come out.
As for performance between the ls6 and ls2, the ls6 is better, but not by much. The C5 z06 is the all-around better performer, but the base C6 is easier to live with and has a much better interior.
Decide wisely. If you get a c5, but really want a c6, you'll likely just end up buying the c6 later Or you could always shop around for an ls3 vette. I've seen them for as low as 29k.
No way anyone bought a new anything on here for $32K!
The best deal I ever remember on here was the following: '09 1LT Z51 Coupe, and I think it had Gumbys or at least one other option. Sticker was something like $52K. The dude got it for $37,500 (28% off sticker!!!). This was a dealer blowing out their last '09s early this year.
I bought my '09 1LT April 30th of last year and thought I got a great deal at the time. I paid $39.9K which was about 19% off msrp. I can tell you that you cannot buy a new 1LT coupe for 19% off sticker right now. The best I've seen is about 13% off.
It's going to take a little longer this year for the bargain basement deals to appear. They simply aren't making that many 2010 models...so it might be Fall before the jaw-dropper prices start popping up. I've already seen 1LT GS Coupes in the $47K range...so prices are beginning to break a little already.

08'S never sold brand new for that cheap.Even a 1LT would have been high 30's,and I mean like 39+ at best.As for c5-c6.The newer the better. The c6 is way better then any c5,including the z06.The c6 has 99% of the c5 z's performance and you take the top off when you want to.In a drag race it's as close as you can be and a driver's race more often then not.
