Default Corvette vs Audi S5

okay BEFORE THE BASHING, I know these are two COMPLETELYdifferent types of car. BUT, im sure someone before they bought their vette was considering the Audi S5, that car is beautiful. If you chose the vette over the Audi S5, why? Just want to know the cons of it.

Or if your currently considering trading the Vette in for the S5, Why?

s5 wasn't out when i bought my vette. but the main reason why i have the vette over the audi would be price. won't be able to get the S5, let alone an a5 for the price i paid for my c6

im assuming you like silver cars from your profile picture. If given you can trade the vette for a silver audi S5 without LOSING any money or value, and etc. Would you do it?

I have an '09 ZO6 that I keep in FL, and just bought a fun car to use here in PA. I was looking for a speedy convertible, and tested a Callaway GS vert, an S5 vert, an M3 vert, a Nissan 370Z vert, a stock GS vert, a 911 vert, a BMW 335i vert, and bought a BMW 335is vert that I'm picking up tomorrow. I had actually bought an '08 M3 vert, but had the dealer take it back when I saw it had been in a collision before I got it. The dealer did not disclose.

The Audi S5 looks great as a coupe, although I do think they look and feel nose heavy. The convertible IMO doesn't look that great with the top down, it did drive nicely and was comfortable, but was not very engaging and had a limited fun factor.

I fell in love with the M3 and put it through a lot of paces on the back roads, but I couldn't find another clean used one and I didn't want to pay up for a new one.

The 335is is a new model for them that started hitting some dealers this week. In some respects, I like it better than the M3 as it feels lighter and it actually feels more engaging in the steering.

For pure fun however, I would take my ZO6 over any of them, even though it's not a vert.

If it were an equal trade, I would probably jump on the s5. The story would be different if i had a z06 though..

You own a 575 Maranello?
F*** the Audi (no disrespect OP)
But if you do own one, then you have a beautiful stable!

(OP- S5 is an amazing car)
just out of my range, heck I can't afford a C6...

The F575M is my father's garage queen. It's a shame he doesn't drive it as it should be driven

the S5 coupe with its 4.2 liter V8 is very sweet although it's inexcusable that Audi couldn't figure out how to equip it with a sliding moonroof. (It only flips up.) Hell, if Porsche can do it on a 911...

The cabriolet with its supercharged V6 is a different story. I know it's powerful and quick but there's no substitute for the sensations and sounds of a modern V8.

It was the look of it that sold me. I was planning to buy a silver Porsche Cayman before I saw it at the dealer parked next to a yellow Vette that someone traded in. I never test drove an Audi (not that any dealer would let me test drive like I drive my Vette) but I couldn't imagine having something that performed better or accelerated as fast as the Vette does.

The Audi is a nice looking car it's just more conservative looking and it has a back seat. The only person I wanted to cart around was my husband. Wow, I just looked at the fuel economy and the Audi only gets 16 mpg (city). The Vette averages 26 highway and 21 with the mild to wild on. Not that any of us bought the Vette for the fuel economy but I was impressed when I noticed that.

I liked the S5 and when I was purchasing my 08 vette, I looked at the audi. The pricing and performance equation really swayed me to the vette.

The S5 is a little heavy... and slightly underpowered compared to the LS3.

I like AWD....I like the availability of rear seats but not enough to offset the loss of performance compared to the Vette.

Good looking car. Not to replace the vette but a good companion ...although for the coin?

I'd go for a CTS V which basically runs the same price (give or take a few bucks)

I believe its a better companion to a vette...and the upcoming CTS V coupe...imo is hands down more attractive from a performance standpoint to the Audi S5 coupe...

I'd rather buy snow tires if need be for a CTS V coupe than go for the Audi S5 coupe...even if it comes with AWD..

Both nice cars though.

I just couldn't pass up on 556hp of the LSA

The S5 is a very pretty car, but underpowered. About 350 hp and 4000lbs.
If performance has much to do with your love for cars, you'll be stepping slightly downward with an S5

BUT as I said, it is a veery nice looking car with a gorgeous interior. I great driver..

I don't think the S5 is "Beautiful" at all, always looked like a glorified TT to me. It's also a Pig, R&T weighed the S5 at 4,350 pounds and it's slower thru the Quartermile then any C6.

I bought my '08 C6 brand new & optioned for $43K. How much for an S5, LOL...

You can't tell me the front LED lights on the A5 does not spark any interest for you at all... not even a bit?

In Late 2009 I had an S4 with the 4.2 V8 and it was great. Time to trade it in on a S5 4.2 and saw a 09 vette at another lot that same day and purchased it.

I have owned 3 audi's and 3 vettes, two different cars, but both great in different ways.

The deciding factor on this last car was I wanted to spend my money with a US company.

Saw a brand new black S5, (lowered and with aftermarket wheels) on the tollway the other day and that car was hot as hell. Every bit as good looking as the Vette. The S5 does have seating for 4 and I would love to have some back seats occasionally and the interior is gorgeous to boot. But the price is a big factor between the two, especially when looking at performance. The S5 is 2 tons, and even with AWD, you will feel that weight regardless of how well the car is balanced. I would also be way more hesitant to even hold a wrench next to the Audi, whereas I would be okay doing an engine swap in the Vette.

Although as stated the Audi is a pretty nice car and, AWD is nice depending on the car. AWD in a Vette would be awful. But, I would have to go with either the CTS-V coupe or sedan hands down. 556hp V-8 is just to much to pass for the Audi. And ,both the Caddy's are sharp looking well equipped cars.

Yeah, they are pretty aren't they. But, can't see spending $15-20K more for pretty LED's which would always be in a C6 'rear view mirror'...
