I take neither credit nor blame for this information. I certainly have no proof that it has ever happened.
On my way back from BBORR I picked up a very deep rock chip. It was in my field of vison for left turns. I took the $500 hit and had it replaced.
The installer called my attention to the seal under the hood at the top of the firewall. It is not glued or retained by any of the ^%$# plastic clips. He said that a Corvette burned up because the seal was loose and caught fire.
I secured mine with RTV I would have much preferred 3M weather strip cement but didn't have any.
