My 06 vett vert is going into storage tomorrow here in Naples florida. There is no power available and no air conditioning. It will be in a typical 10X20 storage unit until Nov. 1st. What are the things I should do to protect it's well being? Should I put a bucket of moisture absorbing material on the floor? It will be covered. Thanks for your input.
I would do something about mice and either take the battery out, or at least disconnect it. The battery will take a hit even disconnected unless it is charged in the interim. Be sure to leave the car unlocked and test the metal key before you put it away.
Can you take the battery back home with you and put it on a battery tender? I also like to verify that the tires are properly inflated before I store for the winter up here in frigid Illinois. I would also suggest storing it with a full tank of gas (eliminates the possibility of any condensation in the tank though that may not be as big of an issue in Florida) and add the proper amount of Stabil to the fuel. Another thing I like to do is pull the fuse for the fuel pump when I take it out of storage. I then crank the motor for 10-15 seconds to bring the oil pressure back up. Put the fuse back in and away you go. You'll also need to re-index the windows when you put the battery back in.
I wouldn't worry as much about the exhaust, but they can eat wiring and actually get in and nest in the interior....can get very expensive, and the longer the car sits, the more likely...
-oil change and filter.
-tires pumped,
-batt. out.
-if it's going in tomorrow you're too late to get the packs of dryer from MidAmerica, but it's about 3 or 4 big packs per order IIRC.
-stabil in gas.
-poison under car on a piece of cardboard to slide in and out (Lowes' "Tomcat All Weather block Bait"), a couple at very leading edge/corners of garage door.
-stuff tail pipes, maybe even cover with baggies.
-it has been said that rodents don't like smell of "aromatic" dryer sheets (can drape them over car cover to be at wheel level)
-cover,
-and put a sticky nearest driver door telling you what has to be removed before starting.
