Default Vert Top Help Needed

I decided to put the vert top down before pulling out of the garage. With engine running and E brake on I lowered the top. It appears to have gone down all the way but the tonneau cover is stuck in the up position and will not go down.

This very same problem happened last weekend and I went into the fuse box in the passenger floor board and traded out like fuses and all worked like it should. Figured it was a bad connection. I was able to even put the top back up at the end of the day.

Now I'm back to the problem and switching the fuses is not working. The Tonneau cover is stuck up in the air and I live 7 miles from the dealer. I know nothing in the trunk is in the way. Speaking of the trunk, I can't open it with the top cover in the up position and my owners manual is in the trunk.

Anyone had this happen to them? Please Advise. Thanks.

It may be a little late now, but I've read indexing/ reindexing the windows cures a lot of the "funny" stuff like this that happens with a 'vert top.

In the interim, behind the tonneau cover hinges is a fiberboard panel.
Make sure this panel is connected to its mounts firmly.
I think they are circular in shape.
I recall that misalignment will stop the top from closing.
Also, as a reminder, disconnect and reconnect the battery, it is worth a shot.

Sorry I've not had this happen, but it dose's sound like a limit switch is out of adjustment to me.

How to over ride the power top from the owners manual.

1. Raise the hood to the engine compartment.
2. Locate the pressure release bolt on the front side of
the hydraulic pump.
3. Use the wrench, attached to the inboard side of the
hydraulic pump, and turn the pressure release bolt
counterclockwise one revolution, to relieve
pressure to the hydraulic pump. This will allow you
to manually raise the convertible top.
4. Then follow the steps under raising the manual
convertible top. See “Convertible Top (Manual)”
under Convertible Top (Manual) on page 2-55
or Convertible Top (Power) on page 2-62
When power is restored to the vehicle, the hydraulic bolt
must be tightened, by turning it clockwise. The power
convertible top button can then be used to lower or raise
the convertible top.
If the power convertible top is operated multiple times,
the engine should be running to prevent drain on
the vehicle’s battery. Under certain conditions, the Driver
Information Center (DIC) may display a message
regarding the power top. See DIC Warnings and
Messages on page 3-53 for more information.

For #1 they must have meant raise tonneau cover.

The hydraulic pump isn't under the hood, it's under the tonneau cover on the passenger side. That probably isn't your problem anyway. When you hold the down side of the switch to lower the top, does it give a loud "ding" after the top goes down? Have you tried re-raising the top?
Here's what the manual actually says about the hydraulic release:

If the vehicle has lost power, the convertible top can still
be raised by releasing pressure on the hydraulic
pump, located under the passenger’s side of the
tonneau cover, by using the following steps.
The carpet
liner on the passenger’s side must be pulled back to
access the hydraulic pump

The tonneau won't go down until is senses that the top is stowed, try pushing gently down on the top to make it go a little deeper while holding the down switch.

Hope you figure this out! I highly recommend you do not get in the habit of keeping your manual in the trunk, your fob in your interior or your spare key in there either. I would also check to make sure your key actually opens your trunk and that you actually have the proper sized Allen wrench located near the hydraulic pump so you can use it to manually drop or raise the top. Good luck!

update**
Still having problems, but was able with key to get trunk open enough to get out owners manual.

I have disconected the battery and re-indexed the windows. I still have the problem.

65GG:

The top will not go up either. On the DIC I get the message "top not secure". I will attempt to lightly push the top down more while pressing the lower switch.

I appreciate the help on this folks.

To release the prussure on the hydraulic with the wrench, is that done through the trunk? If so, I can't get to it.

If y'all (that means ALL of you) have not done so, go to the first entry in the C6 FAQ's <CLICK HERE> and download your owner's manual. Then don't keep your laptop in the trunk .

And then you can print out another copy to keep in your garage, and another to keep in the kitchen, and another for the bedroom, and one to keep at work, etc. etc. etc.

Yes, I would have prefered a manual top, but that did not come with the 3LT option and I bought the car used.

As far as the owners manual goes, I got it out of the trunk but it doesn't tell me how to fix this problem.

I'll ask again. Where is the hydraulic pump located and how do I access it?

Thanks

Occassionally, I have to press my 08's "top down" button, twice. On mine, after the windows index and drop down, I have to press the top down button once more. I don't know why and never read it anywhere.

Try unlocking the top lock handle, crack the top open 3-4 inches, and try the Top Down button again. Test both the up or down buttons. If nothing happens, pull the top down, relock it and test again.

If you have to see a dealer, please update the post after your visit.

The hydaulic pump is behind the passenger seat, under the tonneau cover. Pull the carpet back to access it. Release the hydraulic pressure by turning the allen screw with the allen wrench that is supplied and is possibly in your glove compartment.

Thanks to all that responded, even those that made the wise cracks.

JJc5, I found the pump after removing the wing nut and pulling the carpet back. I released the pump pressure and was able to get the top back up and the tonneau cover back down. Once I got everything buttoned up I engaged the top down button again and all worked as it should with the top going down and the cover closing.

When I bought this car 6 months ago I got a service print out of all previous work done and I remember seeing "top adjustment". I suspect something is still not adjusted right. At least I now know what to do if I am ever out and can not get the top to work right in the future.

I will also now be able to advise others that may run into the problem I faced today. I fear having to take my car to the local dealer for the adjustment. I doubt they have run into this problem very often. I draw that conclusion as I talked to them this afternoon about my problem.

Does anyone on here know what switch might need adjustment so I could at least tell the dealer if I can't adjust things myself.

Thanks again to all.
