Default Which C6?

Hi everyone. First post. Need opinions from the experts here.

I'm looking into the purchase of a C6 Vette. I've never owned any sort of American Muscle before and I need some opinions to help me decide on either of my options which are more or less within the same price range ($35k-$39k). Both automatic with paddles.

1. 2008 C6 ZHZ (Hertz) - 26k miles, Targa, LS3, Magneto adjustable dampers, limited edition (500 units less 3 units destroyed = 497 left). Cons: i'll never know how it was treated during its life as a rental in Hawaii. Overall in great condition.

2. 2006 C6 Convertible - bought by my friend at 3k miles and now at 6k+ miles, LS2, Z51 suspension/performance package, Z06 Rear Quarter Panels, Heads-Up Display, Makaveli forged wheels, Borla exhaust. Haven't seen it but I'm sure it is in excellent condition and looking at the pics, it looks meaner.

Better engine, weaker suspension (1) ......OR......weaker engine, better suspension (2)?

Which one would you think would hold value better? Exclusivity/future collectibility (1) ......OR......low mileage (2)? I'm expecting to drive it around 1k miles each year.

Thanks for any help.

Are you in Hawaii? Both seem a little high priced for the mainland.

You are presented with an interesting choice. I'm leaning to the Hertz because it probably still has a warranty. If a dealer has it, get him to throw in an extended warranty.

If the 06 has a warranty that might present a different option for me.

Be prepared for the Hertz Haters to come out.

I would go with the 2006 Vert over the ZHZ. For me, the difference is the mileage and the probability that the ZHZ has been driven real hard or abused by renters. Also, the LS2 doesn't give up too much to the LS3 in most driving situations. The 2006 also has some great aftermarket additions, if it is in good condition. If you only plan to drive 1K miles per year, the 2006 will be going strong for a long time. That's my two cents.

Sorry, didn't notice the 06 was a vert. I'd have to go that way. I assume the Hertz is not a vert.

What color is the 06?

I wouldn't want a ZHZ, I think the idea that it's desireable as a limited edition is questionable. If the 06 is 35k I'd say that's high, I'm selling an 07 with 13,000 miles for $31,700 (it's a manual coupe so not a direct comparison).

The '06 is a vert and red in color. The Hertz is a Targa.

I forgot to mention that I am in Guam where prices for cars (new and used) are usually a bit higher than those found in the US mainland. If we get a car from the mainland, we have to add in approx $3,500 in shipping/insurance plus another 4% tax. Therefore, given your car as an example that you're selling at $31,700, my total landed cost for that would be $36,608.

I can't disagree with this quote, but your buddy's 06 might be worth it. I bought an 07 for $35k a couple of months ago. Why? Because I wanted an LMB, and there were only 2 anywhere near me,...there was an 06 3LT 8k mi NAV, base everything else for $31.5k (that car went for 30.750 after I bought mine).

I got my LMB Z51 3LT Black wheels Corsa exhausts (not just catbacks) and 12k mi. The car was worth it to me, because it was set up exactly the way I wanted it.

I would go for your friend's 06, verts are great, Z51 is excellent, Borsa's, and everything else, and only 6k mi? I like red better than yellow, and you know everything about this car's 6k miles, and nothing about the other's 26k.

If Guam is like some of the SE Asian countries I lived in, the vert will come in handy during rainy season.

I wouldn't get either one. the first due to what it is and is not, and the second because to me it's overpriced. my suggestion: keep looking. and the typical mantra on here is buy the latest model in great condition that you can afford (because it has the latest updates, among other reasons).

The '06..No question. Put a cam in it and it will outrun the '08.

Wait and find an low mileage '08 or '09 Z51, NPP coupe that hasn't been a rental, or modded. For $39K you could have one shipped from CA.
