Has anyone bought and installed one of those remote controled retractable front plate brackets? How about the ones that are mounted on a bracket that snaps into a another bracket mounted to the frame under the facia? Looking to get one but am not sure which one will work the best.

Yes I have had two of them. The first one I had I took out on a cement parking block a few feet before the curb-I don't know what you call them but they are very common in parking lots.
I'm satisfied with mine.
Got a second one from MSI in Roseville not far from you and they did the install. You might give Terry a call on this.
Thanks very much. I have also been told that the retractable ones get torn off all the time.
Maybe so but anything would have been damage located in that position.
They do make a manual version without the remote but I don't think that will have anything to do with it getting damaged or not. These cars are just too low and difficult to park
I adapted the manual fold up mount to work in the center of the grill. It doesn't fold up now but it made an inexpensive low center mount plate holder.

Hmm, maybe they could be the reincarnation of the "curb feeler" depending on how they retract. If they "spring" back to the retracted position, maybe the sound might help avoid more expensive body damage.
Just got a remote control one from RPI (forum vendor) Works great but I bent it coming out of a driveway due to its mounting position. Fixed it but now I have to be even more careful when entering/exiting a driveway that is steep.
Seems to work well at speed (still on the car)
Hope that helps
Son got one for his 2010 Camaro after a chickS ticket (on way back to his AF training base and that was all he was pulled over for by a small town cop 40 minutes from the base). I help install it and it is still very noticeable. Looks like something added after design of the car, which it was. I held it in place on my car and said only as the last resort as it was that fugly. However, it has worked for him until his return to base after last weekend home. He called to say it won't go down so I told him we would have to look at it next time home. They are not exactly super durable looking and I warned him about operating it at speed as it would probably get ripped off with the wind resistance. The wire connectors are not up to GM durable standards and I suspect they will not last if 'bumped' which I also warned him about. I also found that they will not be able to use the HomeLink buttons in the car (either Vette or Camaro). I talked to the manufacturer and he said is too expensive for him to pay the license fee to whom ever. Having to have ANOTHER fob running around is stupid as far as I am concerned. My son just keeps his in the console and the sliding around sound just flat drives me crazy. Not in my car, thank you very much. I went through this with the M2W and was VERY fortunate to get one of the very few he made that ARE compatible with the HomeLink. I told him at the time, NO HomeLink ability, NO M2W. Got what I needed and LOVE THE M2W. Best mod in the world.
