According to the manual 3 weeks is about it for sitting idle. So as you now know a battery tender is a good investment.
If that is the case, that timeframe is likely based on a battery that is fully-charged when the vehicle is parked, which doesn't always happen. If a battery is less than 100% charged, is parked in extremely hot or cold temperatures or has other devices drawing current, like a GPS, aftermarket alarm or cell phone charger, the timeframe can be reduced even further.
Even guys who can afford to buy new batteries every weekend would rather use maintainers. Corvettes offer world-class performance, but like other cars in that realm, many don't see daily use and often benefit from regular use of a maintainer.
I'm sorry, I have left my '05 with a standard Corvette Delco battery for WAY longer than 17 days and have had it work just fine...something else is happening here. That said, in the dead of winter I did have a tender on it. Sometimes I think the normal charging system in the Vettes seem to be lacking. Either that or batteries are just really inconsistent in their quality these days and ANY dormant period brings out the worse in them.
I must have a freak battery, my 07' with only 3,400 miles has sat for waaaaayyyyyy more than 17 days, yes, over the winter it's on a battery tender but very often it does not leave the garage for a long time & it always starts for me. JMO.
