Default FOB Problem

I have a 2006 that I'm having FOB problems with. Ive replaced the batteries but the FOB still wont lock the car. The horn sounds but the car still doesn't lock when I push the button on the FOB. Tried the spare and same problem.
Any ideas???
Thanks in advance for any help!!!

Couple things to try.

Can you get the car to auto lock (DIC programming)?

And if so, will the fob then unlock the car?

Better test this with the window down first in case you get locked out and don't want to use the key/door-release pull.

What condition is the car's battery in? If it's still the OEM you may be nearing the end of it's lifespan and weird things have been known to happen when they start to fade.

Or it may be a computer problem requiring a trip to the dealer.

Wish I could be more absolute.

Good Luck.

A couple of questions to help narrow down the potential causes.

Still using OEM battery in car?
Any aftermarket electronics in the car? (cell phone charger, radar detector, aftermarket audio equipment, portable GPS).
Is it only locking the door or unlocking also?
Any issues starting the car (fob not recognized).
Any issues opening the doors from the outside?
Does this happen everywhere you try to lock the doors with the fob or is it only a specific location (work, home, driveway, garage, particular parking lot)?
Have you seen any other messages on the DIC during the course of normal operation (check engine lights, active handling messages, etc)?

Q: How do you know that the door is not locked?

A: Because whenever I try to open the door after I lock the car, the door opens right up!

Is the key in your pocket when you try to open it? if so it will open (being if your car is set that way)

1. Lock the car
2. Go put the Fob on the other side of the yard (excessive but hey)
3. Try to open the door

If you are doing that sorry but some people forget about the fact that they open when the fob is just near the door.

I think I see some humor here.

My understanding:
Regardless of HOW the door gets locked, it should unlock and open any time you squeeze the touchpad inside the door handle; if the fob is nearby.

In order to test if the door was actually locked, you need to leave the fob some distance away from the car and then try to open the door. Usually about 6-10 feet is far enough, but more is better.

i think i see a RTFM here, but hes been a member since 2006 so he should know this feature already. but well try the easy questions first before we start ripping apart the electronics.

Yes the car has just 13000 miles and starts perfectly

Any aftermarket electronics in the car? (cell phone charger,
radar detector, aftermarket audio equipment, portable GPS).
Nothing

Is it only locking the door or unlocking also?
Only locking, I cant get it to lock so I don't know about unlocking.
Any issues starting the car (fob not recognized).
None
Any issues opening the doors from the outside?
None
Does this happen everywhere you try to lock the doors with the fob or is it only a specific location (work, home, driveway, garage, particular parking lot)?
Everywhere
Have you seen any other messages on the DIC during the course of normal operation (check engine lights, active handling messages, etc)?
No other messages
Thanks for any help

Could you try a couple of things for us?

From inside the car, press the door lock button on the driver's door and tell us if you hear the lock mechanism actuate.

Set the DIC option to autolock (as suggested above, might be a good idea to try it with the window down the first time so you can gain access if the fob does not respond to unlock the car.) Tell us if the car does lock.

When you open the door from the inside or outside, is there any sound that seems different or out of the ordinary?

I'm just trying to rule out the fob and the remote control door lock receiver (and antenna) and see if it is in the door lock mechanisim or latch in the form of anything binding mechanically.

My initial thoughts were button problems on the fob but it would seem odd that both fobs and both fobs with new batteries would have this problem so it points to another issue.
