I have a 06' with a 6 disc Cd player and I am looking at a factory Navi Unit. My question is this, will a 2005 Navi Unit work in my 2006? What will I need to change or work on to get it working correctly or is it just a plug and play type of deal? I also have a black rectangular box on the front windshield just to the right of the rear view mirror, anyone know what this is? Thanks for all the help.

I've owned a 2005 w/o Nav and 2007 with Nav. The consoles were completely different. I'm sure all the wiring is in there somewhere for both. The box on the windshield is the Onstar unit. Someone else will probably have all the answers your looking for. IMHO I would keep the 6 changer CD and go with an after market Nav. Less work and cheaper in the long run. There have been some pretty neat Nav mounts using the cup holders in the console. Good Luck
I looked at this and its a pretty much plug and play switch and then drive to dealer to unlock it. My dealer, Gary Lang in McHenry, Il wanted to rape me by quoting me $250 for this unlock. I almost bought a unit off another forum member, but the 250 stopped me. You also have to make sure you have a nav antenna and you will need to mount it on the dash somewhere.

HOLY CRAP!!! $250 bucks to unlock the radio!! It took my local dealership Bill Jacobs Chevy in Joliet, IL literally 5 minutes cost me $39.95. How can they charge someone $250 bucks to do 5 minutes of work??!?!
Go to a new dealership man thats rediculous...or hell lets meet up and I will give you my receipt to show that dealership what morons they are. Unreal! Dont let that stop you from getting a nav I guess you just gotta find the right dealership.

The 05 unit will work in your 06 but if you have the sterering wheel controls they will not work. You'll need the 06 - 08 unit. It would be a plug and play. Mount the antenna as mentioned earlier and you'd be good to go.
Depending on the 05 unit you may have to update the firmware and info on that can be found here and in the audio section of this forum.
