Default Homelink Visor

Is there an aftermarket source for the Homelink sunvisor for the C6. I have a 2LT '08 coupe and I would like to add this feature. Got used to having it in my other vehicles.

Have you checked with Gene Culley at GM Parts House?

Homelink hasn't been around since '05. The current electronic visor is the Lear Car2U.

The cheapest solution is to just buy a used Homelink module (there are several web sites that sell them, as do most junk yards) and do it yourself. I picked up a module (grey, so I had to paint it black) from a web vendor for $20, purchased a used visor from the Forum ($25) carefully cut the visor seam, carved out a place for the Homelink module, wired it to the mirror light, then had a local upholstery shop sew it back together ($20). Total cost was $65 and it looks (and works) perfectly. (I could just have cut my factory visor and replaced the Lear module with the Homelink and saved a bit of money, but this way I have the original if the next owner wants it.)

Homelink was used until 10/7. It was a mid year change.

Best place to find an actula Homelink visor is eBay. I purchased mine for 80 bucks a couple fo years ago.

Default Homelink Visor modifications for C5 or C6

C5 Creations provides a modified visor using the Homelink unit. It can be done using your stock visor or using a new GM visor. This mod is available for the C5 or the C6 series. They have been doing this since 2002. Go to www.c5creations.com for details.

I wouldn't go though the hassle and expense of the Homelink. Chamberlain sells a key fob 3button remote at Home Depot or Lowe's for $20 and it's easy to program and if you wanted to you could hang the fob from the mirror or attach it somehow? But I've seen some of the prices for the Homelink visor and thought it was ridicules at best.

Good luck.

That is a better way to go as I too wanted it in the visor and then we started having break ins in the neighborhood and the crooks were breaking into the cars and then they click the remotes for the garage door and they are in the house - we keep the remotes on a key chain now. By the way the Vette is in the garage but still it is something to think about if you leave any car outside in the driveway.

On our C5, I had a 3-button transmitter velcro'd underneath the steering column. It was actually easier to use than the visor buttons on our various cars.

Our 2006 C6 had the gen-u-ine Homelink system, and so do our 2005 and 2011 Toyotas. They suck. Range is very short, we need to be within two car lengths of the doors in order to open them. The Homelink also seems very sensitive to how long we hold the button: 1/2 second is too short, 1 1/2 seconds is too long and reverses the door. Must hold the button exactly 1.00 seconds.
This is with three different cars on three different garage doors.

Whatever the system is in our 2009 Corvette, it's much better- longer range, and not so critical about how long you press the button.
