Default Outside temperature?

I have owned two C6's previously and would swear there was an outside ambient temperature indicator on the mirror. Just got my son a C6 and we can't find an outside temperature indicator anywhere. Help?

It's not on the mirror. It's shows between the interior temp settings - center stack.

And remember to tell your son that it doesn't always update immediately.

If the outside temperature goes up, the displayed
temperature will not change until:
• The vehicle’s speed is above 10 mph (16 km/h) for
five minutes.
• The vehicle’s speed is above 32 mph (52 km/h) for
two and a half minutes.
These delays prevent false readings. If the temperature
goes down, the outside temperature will be shown
when you start the vehicle. If it has been turned off for
less than three hours, the temperature will be recalled
from the previous vehicle operation.

I think on the 2005 manual it is stating somewhere that you can switch between compass and outside temp reading on the mirror. Sorry but my english are not the best.

I grew to love this feature on trips to Florida where I would be passing hills of Kentucky and there was danger of ice forming on the road.

No, that's incorrect. The automatic dimming light switch is also used for compass calibration, but that's all. Here's part of what your owner's manual says on pages 2-34 and 2-35.

Compass Operation
The mirror has an eight-point compass display in the
bottom of the mirror face.
When the ignition and the compass feature are on, the
compass will show two character boxes for
approximately two seconds. After two seconds, the
mirror will display the current compass heading.

For example, NE is displayed for north-east.
There is some additional information about setting compass variance, but note that information is partially incorrect. It talks about using the map light buttons, but it should say to use the auto dimming button as I've indicated above. Please reread those pages in your owner's manual.

If you're in North Texas today, it's easy to spot, it's the three digit number next to your interior temperature

This is was is on my manual and it is talking about F and C for temperature.

"Compass Display
Press the on/off button, located to the far left, briefly to
turn the compass display on or off.
If the display reads CAL, the compass needs to be
calibrated. For more information, see “Compass
Calibration” later in this section.
To adjust between Fahrenheit and Celsius:
1. Press and hold the on/off button for approximately
four seconds until either a flashing °F, or °C appears.
2. Press the button again to change the display to the
desired unit of measurement. After approximately
four seconds of inactivity, the new unit will be locked
in and the compass/temperature display will return.
If an abnormal temperature reading is displayed for an
extended period of time, please consult your dealer.
Under certain circumstances, a delay in updating
the temperature is normal."

It is not very clear.
