I just finished discussions with GM Customer Service. Attempted to get a good will repair done on failed column lock. No luck. GM states there are insufficient documented customer complaints on this issue. For all forum members that have experienced the 2005 C6 Column Lock failure, I would recommend you take the time to call GM Customer Care (800) 222-1020 and log a complaint. This will never get recognized as a serious safety issue until there are enough complaints. So for me - It is off to GM Parts Warehouse to order a replacement column lock.

Well that's a crock of BS if I ever heard it. This issue was the plague of the C5 for years and still is. I couldn't believe the system even came out on the C6. If it wasn't a problem, why did they change it after 2005? There are 2005 guys complaining about it on CF constantly.

So your saying yours already locked up? I have not experienced the issue but just got the recall letter. I went in and they added a clip I believe, it took 20 min.
After living a 2005 nightmare my only advice for a truly successful repair of the SLC system is that every piece of the system must be replaced at the same time-bit & pieces repairs only result in temporary fixes.
The C6 SLC problem was a dirty little secret in 2004-2005, I was lucky to have a excellent tech who worked at the problem until BG finally admitted what the problem was and how to fix it.
Purchased replacement column lock from Gene. GM installed in 1.5 hrs. Much improved. Obvious by quick "zip" sound of column lock when it locks and unlocks. Column Lock on C6 was only on the manual transmission and only on the 2005 model year.
Hello from Athens, Greece ... I just purchased a used 2005 manual C6 and having the same issue described above but as it is 2 years old, I'm just wondering if there was any further suggestions ... I tend to lean toward replacement of the entire SLC module ... but only if there is a recent version available with the modification incorporated. Any help would be appreciated!

I think you mean the service active handling recall but OP is talking about column lock and there is no recall on cl issue.
My 05 C6 m6 shows a warning "service column lock " once every 2 months . I just chalk it up to low battery gremlins . I cycle the start switch off / on a few times and it lights , never any locking of the wheel . Damn electronic " GM nuisance schtuff "
Thanks to all that posted ... on the toggling of the ignition switch ... that's how I got it to unlock eventually (and very rapidly powered by frustration!) ... I watched the video of the Corvettes of Houston and agree that it is a very good/inexpensive solution ... just don't know if I want to give up the locking aspect in a Country (Greece) that the economy will tank next year and theft is on the rise ... if you know what I mean Be well and Happy Thanksgiving to all.
P.S. ... The video of the bypass also shows how easy it is to remove the bezel/instrument package to get to other components (like my ignition switch that is worn externally) so thanks for that as well !!!
I was wondering if you could give me any more info on how that unit works and what it exactly does. I have a 2005 c6 with steering column lock issues. every few weeks car will not turn over then a few min later it fine. Dealer quote $900 for the repair but not sure it will fix the issue.
thanks
Back when i owned a 2005 ..... that is exactly what I did!!!
Victor is on here and he created the column lock bypass that works. He was with COH when he created the bypass. Easy install and works perfectly. Many on here have had his unit installed for many years and start ups. Make sure you get his model. vsellens is his name on here.
found info on Victor in another post
