The Mirror Compass is not working correctly. No matter which way I go it tell me I am going North. It could be NE or NW but never South. I drove about 400 miles due east. Has anyone ever had this happen?
You need to enter the proper region for your compass. It is in the manual under calibrating the mirror or something like that. You need to set up the proper region code.

SO if you drive out of your region you need to reset the region number?
I've installed a few of these auto dim/compass mirror's and the calibration proceedure usually involve's a few circle's in an open parking lot. My Vette's mirror pretty much act's like your's, when sitting for several month's. Haven't done the parking lot thing, but a long trip with lot's of directional change's usually does it.
Note: the compass calibration process and the compass variance process that's printed on pages 2-39 to 2-43 of the 2008 owner's manual has an error in it. Everywhere that it refers to the map light ON/OFF switch, it should say the Mirror auto dimming switch.
That error has been in the owner's manual since the 2005 edition. In addition, several of the pages in that section are repeated, again, in both the 2005 owner's manual and in the 2008 owner's manual. I'm guessing it's that way in all model year manuals.

That is for setting the declination or the change in magnetic north as you travel across the country. With only 8 directions indicated the compass doesn't have enough resolution to worry about a few degrees difference.
When I picked up my 2010 coupe from the Museum they drove it in circles several times to get the compass to 'get it's bearings' and set it up to give the proper compass indicator.
Are there any electronic modifications needed, if I replace my manual night/day rear view mirror with an OEM one that includes the compass ?
I know that to get the OnStar working, I do need new electronics, but unsure on the compass and temperature only.
