All,

I have an idea and wonder if anyone has tried it or knows whether it will work. I do use the TPMS and visit some HPDE with my 2010 Z06.
My concern is that while at the track a TPMS sensor malfunctions and causes me to limp home rather than finish my time at the track. The chances of more than one TPMS going bad at any time should be slim to none. Therefore, my idea is to have one wheel's TPMS register as two wheel locations with the TPMS control module. This will allow me to run with no traction control and comp mode off as well, although I will have 3 or less functioning TPMS sensors.

Does anyone know if the TPMS module allows the same sensor ID to register in two or more wheel locations?

John

A bad TPMS won't cause you to limp home. I run road courses, drag races, high speed runs on the street, etc... with no TPMS and have no issues.

No TPMS in all wheels will buy you more time, rather than having one go bad in which case TPMS will force reduced power, not allow disabling TC, going into Comp mode or shutting off the electronic nannies altogether. This is what I have read in almost all threads and hence my idea of programming one sensor in multiple positions in an effort to trick the TPMS.

I think you've been misinformed in almost all threads then.

I've had a bad TPMS and it didn't effect anything other than showing the wrong pressure, 0 pressure or xx.

Maybe it's a model year difference. Mine is a 2010 Z.

If you visit TireRack and try to purchase a set of wheels you will get the warning about reduced power and not being able to shut off the electronic nannies, without TPMS activated and working.

Another trick would be to find a 2010 or 11 C6 and program their sensors into my car's four wheel positions. I understand that none of the 4 sensors being active causes the PCM to wait as much as 1 hour before shutting things down. Next time I pit, I park next to the signal donor car and reset my TPMS timer. It might not be as easy to find another later model C6 at the track and so that is why I am curious about being able to learn the same sensor in two wheels trick.

It doesn't ever "shut things down"

Great then, nothing to worry about.
I can run around without one TPMS senor all the time, and aside from the DIC and TPMS lamp complaining, I can run with no traction control, stability control or speed limiting!

Correct.

I have had a TPMS sensor actually go bad and read 0psi and it will display "limit speed to 55" or something like that, but it doesn't physically stop your car at that speed. It's just a suggestion for max speed for a deflated run-flat.

I've also raced with no TPMS and was fully able to shut down Traction control or go into comp driving mode even after the car registered that no TPMS were present and read "XX" for all tires.

Not sure I agree.

Do not have access to my owner's manual that explains what happens when TPMS is not registering and Comp mode is requested.

I believe that it limits but not shuts down all handling and engine performance options.

May be Talon90 will chip in with the correct information. My source for definative info.

once you put your non track wheels back on, after running track wheels with no sensors and having had the warning, will the car automatically recognize the wheels with tps are back on?
