Just wondering if it is ok to leave the transmission in sport mode and let the automatic do its thing , then when you want to just start using the paddles

I ALWAYS leave mine in Sport Mode and NEVER use the paddles. I hope it is okay to do that also

The only issue I've run into when driving in "S" mode without using the paddles is accidentally downshifting when not paying attention.

I always leave mine in "S" mode no problem.
The trans is noticable crisper in the "S' mode
Sometimes I use the paddles, sometimes not

"S" mode for me as well. It is programmed to hold the shifts longer. When I got my car dyno tuned he had it in "S" mode as well. I never use the paddle shifters.

I like using the paddles, and have adopted some "paddle-isms":

1. I don't always paddle downshift when slowing down, but I always paddle downshift as it comes to a complete stop so I'm starting again in 1st versus 2nd.

2. After upshifting to cruising speed, if maintaining a constant speed for awhile, I usually bump it to "D" then back to "S".

3. I like to keep it in paddle mode when driving on twisties, so I can keep the tach up around 3000rpm for better throttle response.

There's definitely some finesse involved in using the paddles effectively, IMHO.
