Went to get a quote on a new front windshield for a 2008 C6 coupe with onstar and HUD. I was quoted $2733.59 Canadian. This was installed. I asked if it was going to be OEM glass. They said probably not. WTF. I can see screwing an insurance company for a small profit but this is crazy.
This is Bob at Fichtner Chevrolet, a long time supporting dealer here on the Forum.
Give Tom a call at 800-234-5284 as we can blow that price completely out of the water with a GM windshield. We just need to coordinate shipping within Canada or to you at the border. We definitely can save you major $$$.
gmpartsdirect.com charges $636 for an OEM HUD windshield , but you have to add S&H, which is where they make their money, add it to the cart to find out how much.
They seem to have 4 different version, for gps and hud combinations.
I was quoted anywhere from $1140 to $2390 (installed) for HUD/OnStar glass when I got 3 quotes. All stated that, while the glass would not come directly from GM or have a GM label on it, it would be coming from the same company that supplies GM with the Corvette windshields and would have the exact same quality and characteristics (same windshield/different labeling).
The thing being is it will be put through my insurance. They know this so they over inflate there prices big time. Only costs me $200 out of pocket but still bugs the heck out of me they would screw insurance companies that bad.
I just have my windshield replaced by All Star Glass approved by AAA. Gm oem with HUD
windshield hud= $757.20
adhesive =$ 31.84
labor =$ 125.40
Ca tax =$ 76.93

This is another option that costs too much. Delete HUD option.

Just had mine replaced....windshield was struck by an oncoming truck and then started to crack. We are fortunate here in Arizona as we have 0 deductible. USAA is a great insurance company. Called them up and had the windshield replaced in one day.
As a C6 owner who recently replaced his windshield I can tell you what I found out:
1. When I found out mine wasn't OEM I went nuts with the insurance company and complained that I didn't get the right replacement windshield.
2. I didn't have the GM logo on the windshield but all the other numbers and letters were the same as a factory delivered windshield.
3. I learned that 'ALL' Corvette windshields are made by the same company. AP Technoglass.
4. Most dealerships farm out replacement windshield replacements to local glass companies. At least around here they do. If you go directly to the windshield repair company and have the windshield replaced, the glass will 'NOT' have a GM logo as most glass companies do not have GM license rights and are required to buff out the GM logo. However, if you go to a dealership and they authorized the work, chances are they will leave the logo on.
My only complaint is that I think the new glass is too reflective. Other than that I have no complaints. I had to pay a deductible but I think the total bill was around $1400. Had I gone to the dealer, their markup would have made the same bill around $1700. Didn't really matter to me. My deductible was the same.

I am shocked that your insurance company does not know the true value of this repair. To be really negative and untrusting, I wonder if maybe there is a kickback between the adjuster and the dealer. Call your insurance company and ask them if something is wrong without accusing anyone of anything. Try another dealer if necessary. This simply is not right.
replaced windshield...have HUD
requested from the beginning QEM (with numbers) - would not settle for anything less
quoted 1800 bucks with 50 dollar deductable
installed at home 4 days later...no problems...
