Lockout Protection
Your vehicle can be programmed to sound the
horn three times and unlock the driver’s door when
both doors are closed and there is a keyless
access transmitter inside the vehicle. When the
driver’s door is opened, a reminder chime will
sound continuously. The vehicle will remain locked
only when at least one transmitter has been
removed from the vehicle and both doors are
closed. See DIC Vehicle Personalization on
page 232.
Could this be it?

or
Headlamps on Reminder
A warning chime will sound if the exterior lamp
control is left on in either the headlamp or parking
lamp position and the driver’s door is opened
with the ignition off.

Unfortunately I did a search after posting this and the problem appears to be a common one. From what I have read, I should start locking the door from the outside using the FOB after the door has been shut. Reason for this was stated as the car thinks the FOB is left in the car if I hit the lock button as I'm getting out the car (which is what I usually do with my FOB in my right pocket). I'll try this for a few days and let you know if it works.

That happened to me a few times when I first got the car, and it was because it thought I had left a FOB in the car when I last exited. I fixed the problem by swithching the FOB to my left pocket. For whatever reason, it just seems to recognize the FOB better when it is in my left pocket. Don't know why, but I don't have the problem anymore.

I get the "ding-ding-ding" as well when I open the drivers side door with the FOB in my pocket.
The annoying issue occurs sometimes only, haven't been able to isolate the preconditions..................
Hopefully someone has a valid explanation of what, when and why.

Happens to me as well, happens even without locking the door. I believe it's caused by exiting the car too fast. The car hasen't sensed that the fob is outside the car yet (when the door is closed). It only chimes when I re-open the door. I have to close the door for a few seconds and then re-open the door to make the chime stop (wakes up the FOB sensor I guess).
Keeping in left pocket seems like it might help.

Same intermittant annoyance on our 2009, can't recall if it happened on our 2006 but I think so.

I beleive it is related to the seat belt warning. It happens to me quite frequently. If I pull the car out of the garage to wash it and then put it back into the garage when finished, never buckling the seat belt, the next time I open the door I get the chimes.

In my case, car is never moved without seat belt(s) on.

I get the same chiming but only when both my wife and I have our fobs in the car. If I close my door before she get all the way out I get the three beeps and then when I get back in the annoying chiming. Apparently the chimes have more than one function since this doesn't sound like the OP's problem...You can turn off the three beeps, but apparently not the chimes.

This has not happened to me in a while. But, when it did, I pushed the ignition button to accessory mode and then back to off. On several occasions, this seems to have stopped the chimes every time the door opened. I know this sounds like "rub your tummy and pat your head three times" but it may be worth a try.

2007 same problem. Isn't there an option to turn the fob reminder chime off? If that works then it's a fob sensing issue. I believe there's also a tech bulletin for programming a new drivers side field of coverage into the sensor. Not sure if that addresses this problem.
