Default Can Anyone help me decode this GMVIS?

Hi Guys,

Wondering if any of the night owls can help me out here. Member GMAutotech was gracious enough to PM me a GMVIS report earlier but now that I have it, I'm a little unclear on how to interpret it. Some of the things I'm reading have me worried, it looks like a lot of stuff has been replaced including fenders and headlamps and a muffler... is that right?

What do you guys get out of this? Thanks for any help!

If your question is related to purchasing it, yes, there's been a lot of work on it. Most of it is small stuff or recalls but the fender, headlight, clutch, etc, work would concern me. I'd look elsewhere.

Fenders and headlights. No front end parts, bumper, nose, suspention or anything. I don't see a problem if the price is right.

This could also indicate a very fussy owner and accommodating dealer.

The question is what's the car like today?

Are you then going to sell it at some point? (probably) Then think about what the next guy is going to think about all that work too.

This is the kind of car I was referring to in a discussion here the other day about ALWAYS running a GMVIS before purchasing. The fender and headlight really make me wonder...I've seen some "shady" dealers replace damaged parts under warranty for ultra-demanding or ultra-valuable customers.

When I was a service manager for a "foreign" car manufacturer, we had a customer want us to warranty the flood damage from the son's mistake of opening the door on a car that was sitting in 3' of water-solely because he bought so many cars from the dealership. There were a couple of people that "thought" about doing it! Finally common sense won out.

I'd run...not walk from this car. As someone else stated...you are going to try to sell this car at some point and someone else is going to have the same thoughts as you. This car is either a poorly constructed example of a Corvette or there is something fishy with the warranty work as I can't imagine a single car having that many warranty concerns...it just isn't statistically realistic.

Looking over what I see on the VIS is not overly concerning to me. It appears that what you may have is a picky owner and an over zealous service department.

They dealt with the roof panel delamination (twice).
They had a problem with a dead battery and looks like they kept the car for six days for diagnostics.
They have a problem with floor mat retaining hooks, replaced multiple times.
They replaced the steering wheel position sensor, possibly in response to what is now the service active handling recall, or simply because it needed replacing.
They replaced the differential fluid, probably for a noisy rear end.

The entries at 9/08/2008 7,811 raise a few questions and appear that the car was either side swipped, in an accident or scraped the side of a garage coming in or going out. The vehicle was towed and they replaced left side roof weather stripping, left side mirror, left front inner fender, left front fender and the radiator air lower seal. However, no front fascia or bumper components. They also replaced the clutch master cylinder, perhaps could have been what prompted the physical repairs as it is for the same date stamp and mileage as the body repairs above.

They replaced both headlight assemblies which could have been due to crazing or damage to the lens which must not have been attributable to the owner. Since they are not on the same date stamp or mileage as the physical repairs I wouldn't think that they are accident related.

They replaced the left side NPP muffler.

Thanks for the replies everyone. It seems I was understanding the report properly... I guess I was hoping for better news. As much as I would love to have this car... the uncertainty scares me and you guys are right... there are more Z's out there... even LMB ones which are scarce it seems.

Here's the car I was looking at:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...&category=6168

Everything else on it seemed to check out and I was just about ready to put a deposit on this too. But I think I am with you folks... there is a risk with this car that doesn't really need to be there.

Anyone have a LMB Z06 for sale?
