I had 4 BMW's in the past and all would automatically lower the passenger side mirror when put it in reverse. In my Vette, I now manually put my passenger side mirror down when I go to back up. It makes it so easy to back into my garage while getting very close to the wall on the passenger side. This method is also great when backing into end parking spots and not having to fear that you may scuff the tires or rims on the curb. After you shut the car and then restart, the mirrors automatically go back into the driving position (if programmed with memory seats).
I hope this is as helpful to others as it is to me.
On the C5, you could also set the mirrors with the third memory position. I did that and would select position 3 any time I was backing up.
On the C6, I think the third position is 'exit" only and does not change the mirrors. Is that correct?
I'm not aware the C6 has more than one driving position and one exit position. AFAIK, exit position moves only the seat and steering wheel (telescoping only).

My '07 Silverado has "curb view" mirrors that automatically turn down and in when backing up. For the life of me, as poor as the visibility is out the back, I don't know why GM didn't do this with the Corvette.
Since we already have power mirrors and memory features it seems to me that it is as simple as a software change.
Some people use the memory 2 position with the mirrors set to "curb view" and memory 1 for the normal driving position.
My wife's Lexus does it automatically and it drives me crazy ! I've been through the manual to see if there's a way to de-select that option and as yet, can't locate it.
You're right - -with a curb or other low obstruction, it's helpful . . . but there's a wall at the back end of our driveway and with the mirrors looking at the ground, it's tough to guage in the center visor level mirror.

Have the feature in my new 135i. Its great when parallel parking but 90% of the time Im backing up its not needed and makes it more difficult to see behind you. On the BMW its easy to cancel out with the control on the door. It wasnt listed in the manual for my car, found out on a forum. I'll bet it can be done easily enough in your Lexus. Maybe check a Lexus for and ask them.
