Hi:
I have a 2010 grand sport and decided to try out the launch controll.
I put car in competive mode, shifted in first, and stepped on gas. The car reved to 6500 rpm and scared the crap out of me. am i not putting the gas peddle down fast enough to let rev limitor to settle off at 4000 rpm?

First time I did that it went to redline. I hadn't pushed the gas fast enough.
Sounds like you did not press the accelerator pedal fast enough to put it in Launch Control mode. The computer should limit the revs and not let it go up to 6500 RPM.

Here's the video from the 2010 C5/C6 Birthday Bash with Corvette engineers briefing the system and showing a vid of it in action on a Z06. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9wRW-Ysxck
Seems to work pretty well - they managed a 0-60 in 3.65 seconds on a Z06.
