Default window won't go all the way down -06 vert

I found some posts on windows that won't go up and it seems that these were faulty window regulators.
My drivers side window won't go all the way down, stays up about 5 inches. Anyone know if this is due to a bad window regulator? Could it be a problem other than the window regulator? The part is expensive so I'd hate to buy it and find out later that it was an issue other than the regulator. Any help, advice, opinions will be greatly appreciated.

Also, I am not a mechanic and don't normally work on my car myself but am wondering if this is a simple repair? Does anyone have or know where I might find instructions on how to change a window regulator. If you know how to do this please tell me your opinion as to whether you would advise me to attempt this myself or have it professionally done.
Again, any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Bill

Have you tried re-indexing the window?

If you haven't, here's the procedure.

With the door closed run the window all the way up and continue to hold the switch up for 3 seconds.

Then release the switch and hold it up for another 3 seconds.

Release it and you're done.

Hope this works. If not, a trip to your dealer is in order.

Thanks for the tip but I tried re-indexing the window and it still will not go down all the way. The dealer told me that if it is the window regulator the charge would be in the $700 to $800 range to fix it. This sounds awfully high to me.

Any other suggestions????

My drivers window did that a month or two ago. Re indexing it did not work. I changed out the door handle pad, indexed windows and that did not work. The next time I drove it all worked. It did have a clunk at that same spot. I would say 4 inches from the bottom. Two day later window would not go down all the way, same spot.

A week or two later both window stop at the same spot 4 inches from the bottom. Pulled off the door panel everything looks fine.

Help??

Is it me or does it seem like a lot of weird stuff like this is happnin lately? I bet it's OnStar forcing bad code into the Vette computers!! It's a friggn conspiracy!

Seriously, if the reset of the windows didn't work, I got nothin'. Best of luck and please let us know when you find out what it is.

I can not believe both regulators went out within two weeks of each other.

It seems like the BCM controlls a lot of functions in the car, possibly a problem there. I think they're kinda expensive and I don't know how to test them. Perhaps have the dealer check for codes?

Good luck!

I'm certainly no expert but maybe disconnect the battery for 10-15 min., then reset the windows?? Worth a try, maybe?

I had a problem with the edge sticking up about a half inch when the window was down. I did the reindex in both up and down modes and kept at it until the window was fixed and in the proper alignment. Hope this helps.

I also have a similar problem with my 06. Only mine almost goes all the way down. Sometimes it will stick up about 1/4 of an inch. Other times it goes all the way down. I took it to the dealership, and they couldn't find the problem.

I wish mine rolled down that far.
I don't want to go to the dealer. It is like a little kid going to the dentist, its going to hurt.

Well I ended up bringing it to the dealer as I don't have experience in working on my vette. Turned out the wiring harness ad come loose in the door and was wrapped where the window goes down so the window was hanging on it about 4 inches from the bottom (down) position. Cost me $200. Oh well, better tan paying for a new regulator which was my first guess.
