I found a 2008 Jetstream Blue Coupe with 16k miles. It is fully loaded with the 4LT package. The price for the car is $43K.
I have some questions:
1 - The car was not garaged but did sit under a carport with a car cover in a mild climate. No harsh winters. Not being garaged is a negative to me, although the carport is better than nothing. What's your take on carports/car covers? I'm worried about the condition of the paint. (Car is too far away to just go look at it)
2 - The car only seen 2 GM dealer oil changes. Even with 16k miles, that means the oil was only changed out every 8k miles. Seems VERY high oil change intervals.
3 - At $43K, I can get a 2010 Coupe - 1LT (BRAND NEW) for the same price. I am up in the air about 4LT and whether it is worth the price.
4 - The price seems high for a 2008, even though the MSRP on the car was $64K and the car is loaded, $43K seems high. What say you?
Paint will be fine sitting under a carport for 2 years, as long as the owner took care of the car. No worries there.
I just got my first oil change at 9K miles and my DIC said I was at 7% oil life remaining. So I'd say about 9K miles between oil changes is right, as long as you change the oil according to the owners manual and not some silly 3K mile superstition.
I gotta have my options, so I would never consider a 1LT car. I bought a new 3LT car, and wish I'd been able to swing the extra $ for the 4LT.
All that said, a 2 year old car with 16K miles for $43K sounds a bit high in today's market. I'd offer $36K and see what happens, maybe meet in the middle somewhere.

Mileage between oil changes depends on when the last service was preformed. If it now needs a change, that means it was run ~5,333 between changes. If the last oil change was yesterday, then it would have been 8,000 miles between changes.

No oil change worry if it was changed at least annually or when the DIC announced.
I think you should take a look at autotrader.com nationally to see what these will bring. I just traded an '08 VY, 3LT, chromes, Z51, dual mode exhaust, clear top and invisible bra with 19000 miles. Mine had been hit from behind and repaired well. One dealer had his"expert" look at it on a lift and found no evidence of repair. I got $34K on the trade in and the dealer tried selling it for $39900 and finally got, to the best of my knowledge, $34K for it. I bought a new '09 Z06 with 3LZ and can't really see the difference from the 3LT plastic, sorry. I think your car is high and you should keep searching. JMHO.
Unless you just have to have that particular car, I think the negatives outweigh the positives so far and indicate mediocre care.
Lots of cars live outside and the carport is certainly better than nothing - -covers can cut both ways as in a windy climate, they can cause paint rub on edges. The things that concern me are: 1) the lack of proper care and oil changes - - -in my view it should have had 3 or 4 by now. 2) the price is at least $5k or more high IMO. As you point out, at that price, you could buy new or a well equipped nearly new 2009. Just FYI, Van has a blue Z with the same miles for the same price.
Thirdly, I would strong advise against buying any car you cannot go see, drive and have fully evaluated. There are a lot of good cars locally and in the region that I'd want to see before going on this one.
If you'd like, I can PM you a few contacts locally that might help.
Assuming a lot as you didn't say if this was private party or dealership, I ran the car in Kelly Blue Book. Chicago region, loaded up with all options ( they don't list the 4LT ) the excellent condition, private party retail was $38,500. I'd add a couple of grand for the 4LT package and offer from there. I would start with Mid $30's and see where that takes you. Good luck!

Looks like $43k is his bottom line as his asking price was $45k. Maybe $42k would work with a lot of patience but either way, you guys are right, the car is overpriced. Yes, it is fully loaded 4LT but there are negatives (outside storage, oil change, and of course the price).
Your right about it being $5k too high as I was hoping for $38k, but there is no way. His starting point was $45k and he went down to $43K because he has a note on it and needs $43k.

I will keep looking... Thanks for the input!
IMO the oil change "stigma" is not a big deal. You'll find as many opinions on that as members here. I think the price is too high. I just think you need to do some more research and check the CF dealers for prices too. Keep looking.
Lol I love it when private sellers demand ridiculous prices just so they'll break even on their loan. Not exactly how it works, fellas!
I agree. Years ago I owned a retail store and I would make purchases that I could not sell. Instead of holding on them, I knocked off the price, got rid of them, and put the money into a product that I could then sell at a profit. You want to make money selling products you have in inventory, then inventory turn is essential. Keeping dead stock in inventory kills your bottom line.
What are you people talking about with the oil change issue with this car? The factory recommends changing the oil when the DIC says to change it, which is about 8-9K miles typically.
The most surprising thing to me is the oil change interval. The fact that people drive these cars so hard and then wait 8k miles to change the oil is very surprising. I do drive my car and change the oil every 3k miles(probably way overkill) but the meter on my car doesnt change unless I reset it. The car is not testing the oil to make sure it is not too old or breaking down or else my meter of my 2009 ls3 would reset would I put brand new Mobil One in it. I have changed my oil in every car i have owned at 3K miles and never had a motor problem. Can anyone else elaborate on how oil life meter in the car works and does it have a way of checking your oil? Also I know manufacturers suggest changes at 7500 miles in a lot of cars but dont they make money if the cars break outside of warranty? As long as the part breaks outside of warranty then they are fine. They make a fortune on repairs

I love all the ignorant posts on here that still think you have to change the oil every 3k miles.. you guys obviously have no clue how the DIC works and what the purpose of it is for. There is a complex algorithm that was developed to monitor that. The old days of "every 3k" are history at least in most cars..and again, we are talking about Mobil 1 synthetic in these cars.
2nd- outside storage under a carport is not that bad guys..don't say its a negative unless you yourself have seen the car before you judge, again, an ignorant assumption, you have not seen the car how can you automatically assume its in poor condition.."just because"
To the OP, yea the price is a bit high, and also, I do agree you should not consider the car unless you can go check it out yourself or have someone you trust do it for you.
Lastly, how important are the option packages for you? If it does not rank that high on your list, then maybe check out a newer car that is a 3lt or even 2LT.
Good luck
