We are taking a vacation in the Eureka Springs, Arkansas area, which we have done before, but now we have a C6 to drive and are looking for some nice drives in NW Arkansas. We are going down this fall shortly after Corvette Weekend. Any suggestions from those of you that have been down that way would be appreciated.
Highway 23 south out of Eureka Springs is curvy but smooth and tree lined, beautiful drive. Check out the Pig Trail http://www.arkansas.com/things-to-do...pig-trail.aspx Lots of great Corvette roads in NW Arkansas.

Check with the Arkansas highway dept before driving on Hwy 23 on the Pig Trail. They had a landslide back in december and had to do some major rebuilding of the road, I understand that the company doing the asphalt paving is due to complete the job in "late" summer.
Drive from Jasper to Ponca by the Buffalo River. Nice and curvy. I think it is Hwy 74. Watch out for the herd of elk that sometimes show up around Ponca.

I believe you are thinking about scenic Hwy 7. It's a great road, but it has a lot of biker traffic, thus a lot of LEO's. Keep at the speed limit and watch for the Harleys crossing over the double yellow coming at you.

Thanks I'll check it out. If they operate anything like they do around here sometimes it might be a while.

Elk would be interesting - as long as it was not unexpectedly at 70 MPH
Be careful where you stay, this cabin is about a mile in on a washed out gravel road. It was manageable but took a long time to get down the road, especially in the rain.
In the Ozark area are several excellent winerys. Wheidakers has a unique german resturant built underground, and you can tour the winery. We always stop thete on the way to Fayetteville.
But one of the new features is the State Park at Mt Magazine. Really great lodge and dining room looking over the Ouachita Mtns from the highest point in Arkansas. It's about 25 miles of twisty roars south of Ozark. Lots of signs showing the way. You need to make reservations in fall. This is the scenic fall foilage area, from Eureka to Mt Magazine.
My AVATAR is from the lodge parking lot.
View from the lodge
Looking west into Indian Territory (oaklahoma)
And if you have time another great St Park Pettit Jean. Photo of the car museum. Also nice older rustic Lodge on Pettit Jean, or a super nice Convention Center/Lodge/resturant at Winrock international on Pettit Jean. About an hours drive from Mt Magazine.
Museum in 1967. car has changed slightly.
If you need more info PM me.

For general info about the Eureka Springs Corvette event, There is a big Motorcycle rally in Fayetteville that same weekend. Lodging is likely already booked anywhere close to Fayetteville or Eureka.

The lodge at Mt Magazine is a great place to relax, but it can be hard to get accommodations. Call early and if fully booked, get on their list. We have 22 Corvettes cruising down scenic Arkansas Hwy 7 to the Lodge, in a couple of weeks for a relaxing weekend and then return on the Pig Trail(if the paving is complete) to Eureka Springs for lunch and then home..
If you visit Petit Jean to see the auto museum, then lunch at the 1930's built lodge/ Mather restaurant by the CCC is a must. Also visit WinRock International. They also have a top notch restaurant there.
All the rooms face south, so every room has a terrific view at Mt Magazine Lodge.
It looks just like that. I have been going there for 60 years at least. My parents used to take me there to swim and fish when I was a kid, we had a Higgins fold up camper back in the early 50's. Pulled it with a 1950 Ford and a bumper hitch.
There were huge bass in the lake along the lily pads, but motors were not allowed on the lake so you had to paddle a rental john boat.
Then after I had kids we used to take our Starcraft pop up camper there. My kids loved the hiking and fishing also, We were now allowed to use our 9.9 hp motor. I pulled the johnboat behind the pop up.
Last camping trip on the mountain was in friends brand new Fleetwood RV. 37 ft diesel pusher, 2 slides, sat TV. Boy camping has changed since our little Higgins folding camper.
I'll post a few more picyures.
