Default First Vette, first question......

Hello to every here at the CorvetteForum. I am the proud new owner of a 2010 GS, which is my first Vette. I promised myself I'd own a Corvette by the time I was 40 years old, and I met my goal just in time.

Anyhow, I've done some searching, but I can't seem to find an answer to my first question. I've got the ebony interior, and not unlike dark interors in previous cars, I'm having problems keeping the door panels looking showroom perfect. It seems that the slightest touch leaves a scuff, and I have yet to find a product that keeps the panels and dash looking clean and streak free.......

Other than that, all is well with the car. In this neck of the woods, Corvettes are far and few between, and I still can't get over how much attention the car garners. A trip to gas station or the car wash can take up an hour or more of my time if I'm the GS.....

Pleased to meet you all.

Paul

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on the new ride! I have the ebony interior also and it just takes a lot of constant wiping and cleaning to keep it looking good. But in my opinion that is half the fun! My car is black and it takes a lot of love to keep it looking pristine! But I for one enjoy washing and detailing my car! I think I washed it 4 or 5 times the first week I owned it!. Again congrats and welcome!

To remove scuffs on the door panels, use Mr. Clean Magic Erasers, available in the 4 or 6-pack at Wally World in the Auto Detailing aisle and in some grocery stores in the detergent aisle.

They're white and eraser shaped. Wet one, squeeze out the excess water, and wipe the scuff mark lightly once or twice. They are slightly abrasive, so don't rub very hard. No follow up required. Rinse out the eraser when you get through and use it a couple of more times.

Welcome to CF!!! And congrats on your new GS... I just bought mine a couple weeks ago. These are great cars!

I have been using Meguiar's Quik Interior Detailer for my interior... all surfaces.

It leaves the natural "flat" finish, just like it came from the factory, and the label states that it has UV protection. Scuffs and marks wipe off with ease.

Very nice product, leaves original finish, inexpensive and it smells good!

Aerospace 303 is also a great conditioner and UV protectant that is not glossy and is safe for cleaning all of the interior leather/vinyl surfaces.

Available from Forum Vendor Autogeek or at 'Boat' stores like West Marine.

Congrats on the new car and welcome to the Forum.

Thanks for the warm welcome, brothers. I'll have to check a couple of those products out and see if they do the trick. FWIW, I've used a Magic Eraser on my boat upholstery before, but it's beige, not black.

Does the Magic Eraser work to remove the buildup of brake dust on the wheel barrels by any chance??????

I'll do my best to post some pics tomorrow. There's plenty on the camera, but I haven't bothered posting them on a sharing website yet- I've been too busy staring at my new car!!!!!

Paul

PS. I wave at every Corvette I see. Unfortunately, some of the guys I see on the road never read the Vette Owners Rulebook.....

I do the same. One guy works at the same company I do, I wave all the time and he never does. I don't know why I still bother!

.....
Heavy brake dust seems to be a recurring problem with the GS's. I was experiencing extreme brake dust until I started coating my wheels with ArmorAll Wheel Protectant.

Wash your wheels thoroughly, dry and apply AAWP.

Here's a 13-page thread on this product. It's enjoyable reading and very informative!

Here's another thread on ArmorAll Wheel Protectant (for your high-dusting GS brake pads!)

Good stuff!

I also have a GS with black interior. The 303 left a nice clean finish. It feels completely dry, not gooey like armor all. I have not noticed the scuffs on the doors etc after using it.

For the interior I use Aerospace 303, leaves a nice clean natural finish to the interior and removes those white spots/scuffs.
