Default Convertible Top

Please help guys....We made a quick stop today. The sun was shining and all of a sudden we heard thunder. I had the top down and before I could get there to put the top up, it started pouring, so needless to say I was in a hurry. I didn't have the top latch turned to the correct position and it closed anyway. I am so afraid I have damaged it. Has anyone else had this happen? If so, what were the consequences?
Thanks!

I doubt if it latched shut, because the pins were out, and it couldn't close all the way. Just open the latch, pull it down , and relatch. I've done that to my top, no damage.

I presume this is an automatic top because I have no idea what you're upset about. The manual top is very simple... pull down, twist.

So you need to have a latch turned to a certain position befrore the automatic top can be lowered? You did not, but lowered it anyway and it shut despite this oversight? Sounds like GM made allowances for it's user shortcomings

Yes, we have a power top. We're thankful that it looks like GM did make an excellent product which is why we love them, right? Thanks for the response.

I was 40 miles west of Las Vegas w/ top down driving very fast with a pack of other cars when a cloudburst hit unexpectedly. The rain mixed with the desert dust was quite an obstruction to even see the road. There was no where to pull over for about 5 miles so I just slowed to about 50mph and ate mud - nothing I could do about it. Had quite the clean-up when I rolled into Vegas

Not that you should do this at anything faster than a crawl, but you can put the power top up or down while you're moving by pulling up on the E-brake handle, just one click.

I don't think you damaged anything, I've had my top 'hit' the header with the handle in the closed position too. No problem, just latch it.

Default Top Latch

Thanks for the feedback. Everything is fine with the latch. One more question......Anybody that has a power top......Do you leave the latch in the "open position" when you put the top down, so that when you just put it up, it will close automatically and all you have to do is turn the latch to close it? It is hard to tell if there is enough clearance after the top goes down so that the latch can remain in the open position without sticking up too far.
Thanks,

It will work either way...it doesn't hit anything in the "open" position

I leave the front latch in the open position when the top is down.

If that's wrong, somebody feel free to correct me.
