I am looking very closely at purchasing an 08 and notice that yes the displacement went up from 07 but I am curious did the real world MPG go down or are the lower numbers because of changes to the way mpg is calculated by the EPA? Yes I know it doesn't matter but I am curious.
PS: Thanks for the responses re Carslile. I called their notary and got a few details. Unless one is comfortable purchasing from a private party I think I'll stick with the big boys and pay the premium for that.
This slide was from the 2008 introduction engineering discussion at the NCM. It talks about the changes to the way MPG was calculated.
As usual Talon90 steps in with the straight skinny. Thanks again!
The prediction at the time was that real world mileage would be essentially unchanged due to increased efficiency in air flow management. That seems to be the case based upon comments from Forum members, but I've never seen any serious attempt to prove the point.
My '08 auto regularly gets 26-27 overall when fully loaded with luggage and a passenger wile driving to and from the SF Bay area to Tucson. The route I take includes well over 100 miles of two lane, where I have to 'get on it' to pass slower vehicles. I'm very pleased with the fuel economy. It's actually the most fuel efficient vehicle I've ever owned!
