Default 07 Convertible top hitting rear window

Hey guys, I’m pretty new to the corvette world and still have much to learn….I am the proud owner of a 2007 Corvette Convertible 3LT with the Z51 performance upgrade and of course she is the 6-speed manual. I have been having a few issues ;( with her since I bought here 2 years and 1 day ago! but despite her quirks they have been the best 2 years of my life (Don’t get me wrong I wouldn’t give her up for the world!) The problems I have been having I broke up into different threads as to keep the responses separate of each other. In summary though I have been having problems with: 1) the convertible top clearing the tonneau cover when it is put up/down. It physically hits and 2) the car randomly does not start and puts itself into accessory mode after a few seconds.

The convertible top issue – When putting it up or down (by the use of the electronic switch) the plastic piece that covers the convertible top storage compartment (might be called the tonneau cover?), physically hits the rear window ledge. This occurs because the rear 1/3 (at this point vertical) portion of the convertible top does not pull itself far enough into the cabin to clear the up and coming plastic part.

The car is still under full warranties but when I go again to the dealer to have this looked at…again, it will be the 5th time being serviced for the top. The dealer however is not the ones making the “adjustments” they are calling the manufacturer of the top and having their specialist make all of the adjustments. These adjustments work for some time but within a few months the problem begins to reoccur. Does anyone have any ideas on how else I might be able to handle this? Any advice or thoughts would be very much appreciated.

As for the convertible top, I highly recommend you talk with the best dealer you know and get a recommendation of a specialty shop to take it to under warranty if they don't have in-house expertise. If that doesn't work, start asking for a whole new top.

Suggest you just post pics or you put it on YouTube.

The only thing I can suggest for you to do is to make sure that everything is tight, including the pump nut. Good luck!

Pickkorn2, you are not alone on this. I have the exact same problem as far as the tonneau hitting the bottom part of the window.

My updates are I took it to my dealer, very reputable, and they could not get the problem to duplicate. Of course the problem disappeared for a month or two and then back again.

The tsb that was posted seems to be for a different type of problem or perhaps I read it wrong.

Paying attention for updates from other members.

If that valve wasn't holding pressure wouldn't that mean that the top would not be able to move? ...because the pumps wouldnt be able to expand/compress? The problem I have been having hasn't had those results even after a few weeks of the issue.

Good luck.
This problem is so close but it is not quite the same issue...The cover physically hits the rear inside window ledge. The TSB is for a few seconds after this operation and when the cover is already at its max angle of inclination. That 70 to 90 degrees normal to the ground....My problem occurs at only 20-40 degrees... there has to be some sort of fix for this out there!

yea mine is at the 2 year mark but as an Mechy (Mechanical Engineer) I know that this will damage the rear window ledge as well as chip that the rear cover over time! And I can not allow this to happen! Especially to my baby

Default manual solution...

Mine does the same thing-- tonneau front edge scrapes against the thin metal frame around the inside of the rear window during transit. Started happening about a year ago. Happens about half the time and has scraped when putting the top up and when putting it down.

My simple solution: During transit, I gently pull forward on the rear window frame just enough so the tonneau clears it. Sometimes the tonneau just nudges the back of my fingers, but I much prefer that instead of it scraping against the metal window frame.

Man I feel for you. I've been having several top problems for the last 2 months. Sometimes things work as they should, but most of the time it does not work right. Last week when I took the car to the dealer, it decided to work fine. I'm about to give up.

That is called "driver involvement"--no extra charge.
