Does anyone know if the painted roof is structurally stronger than the lexan roof? I like to do driver schools and some of them won't let you on the track with a "glass roof". It's a problem for me because I don't have the painted top (but I may be in the market for one).
The older t-tops- like those used on the C3's were framed safety glass, but Jim's right - -the C6 roof is a polycarbonate material - - not sure whether it's tensile strength is greater than the composite roof or not .. .
You must comply with their rules, even if silly, but I don't think it makes any difference on a C6. Most C6 Coupes I've seen that got upside down, the targa panel was gone.

I would suggest that you contact chevrolet for the specs on the 2 roofs strengths. If they are comparable I would print that out and show the people. If that does not work I bet you can find someone in your area that would let you borrow a roof just for the course. Good Luck
I attempted to contact GM about the specs for the 2 roofs. A sales guy I know from a Chevy dealer gave me this # 1-800-222-1020. The people at that # know nothing and can prove it! I can't seem to get past the first line of support people. Anyone have any suggestions?
Have you gone to a local dealer just to look at the roof panels? When I was considering purchasing the lexan top, I looked at one that was installed on a dealer car.
Although it may have the same frame as the painted top, I thought it was noticeably more flimsy. You can easily press on it and bow it in either direction quite easily. I couldn't bring myself to pay the $700 plus the used market brings for these tops, much less the $1200 or more the dealer wants for them brand new.

Wow, Jim, how many upside down C6 coupes have you seen?
