Straightline Performance has a good reputation although I have not used them.
FLP in Naperville
Speed Inc. Schaumburg
Blackdog Speedshop- Linconshire- newer to the forum here but very impressive shop and service
Straightline or Deans Performance for me at this point.
I will say though, I did deal with Blackdog a while back, and while they weren't able to help me then, they were very helpful in discussing solutions for the predicament I was in and which of their competitors carried the part(s) I needed. Really left me with a great impression of their shop.

I wanted to take my car to Black Dog for tuning. When I called I was told they don't tune cars that they don't build.

Can you really blame them? I've seen cases where one shop builds, one shop tunes, engine goes Kaboom on the dyno for whatever reason...then it's off to the blame game while the customer is left in the middle. I've also seen lesser of a problem, but still a problem when a tuner tunes the car, the car does not produce the results wanted by said customer, same thing..finger pointing.
I know plenty of shops that will tune whatever you bring them, and thats fine too, but I can see Blackdogs stance on this.

I'm sorry, but I disagree. My car was put together by an ASE certified tech and I can produce all recepts for the work that was done. It shouldn't make any difference as long as the car was put together correctly, and mine is. Any dyno shop that I have been to makes the customer sign a release anyway, which would remove any responsibility from the shop doing the tuning. I really don't see the problem.

Does ASE really mean that much though? Aren't most dealer techs ASE cert'd? I've met plenty of them that I wouldn't entrust with changing my oil.
As far as their choice to only tune what they build, I can't really fault them for that. They know the history, they know the build, they know the exact specs for everything. I think it's kind of odd, but if it works for them then they're obviously doing something right. Either way, there are tons of tuners in the area, so we're all fortunate to have a large pool to choose from.

Exactly, you can't fault them, if you don't like it fine, but it's not like they are doing something that does not make sense or is a bad business practice. They are being a bit more conservative and taking total ownership in the project that's all.

While the liability issue is real, our issue is more with time. We bought our dyno as a tool, for use on cars we build, and right now, that keeps it pretty busy.
Down the road, we may change this policy, but for now, as others have posted, there are many options.
