So I get into my car after work yesterday. Hit the start button, car cranks about 3 times, then stops and all power is gone. I hear hundreds of clicks over about a five minute period of time, and when all the clicks stop, the lights and radio come on. I then was able to start the car on the first try.
The dealer has not been able to reproduce either time I've brought it in for service. I noticed a fair amount of corrosion on one of the battery terminals and some splatter (battery acid?) on the fuse compartment next to the battery. The dealer said the battery was fine.
This happens off and on, it started about 6 months ago and has increased in frequency from once a month to several times per week. It does seem like it has been better recently since I started holding the start button for less time. Until yesterday. Anyone experience this or know what the cause is?
Sounds like a bad connection on the battery. Try cleaning the terminals and posts with a terminal cleaner brush to see if that fixes it. Also make sure the terminals are tight and dont wiggle on the posts.
I had a local shop clean it up for me a couple months ago. I was already having problems with it at that point. I suppose it is possible one of the terminals is loose, so I'll check it out. Thanks!
Well, the battery terminal wasn't the problem. It was already tight and the starting issue popped up again this morning. Any other recommendations?
I had this issue on my SLK320 (car I traded in when purchased the Corvette) - it was the CPS- Crank Position Sensor -but I think it can be many things. The CPS stored a code in the computer..

Thanks, I haven't heard of this issue before. I'll have the dealer look at it the next time I take it in.
