I have a 2005 Corvette Z51 Coupe with 24,000 miles on it, and a GM extended warranty which expires by date in November of 2010. I recently pulled the bumper off in preparation of installing a SIC Motorsport bumper, and noticed that my radiator support is hanging on one end underneath. The welds that hold it together are broken. I figure this is probably not covered, as GM really covers nothing under there BS warranty, but I figured i would ask.
If it's materials/workmanship it would be covered.
That it is... however I just read though it and it says "sheet metal, chassis frame, cross members, body rails, body panels, or other body parts are not covered."
Again though, this radiator support broke AT THE WELDS, its not bent up or anything... how do I convince the dealer to cover this?

Tell them a GOOD weld should never break, its supposed to be stronger than the parent material. The parent material should break not the weld
(long time welder here)
I would think though the part of the contract you quoted will be their way out
I agree, the welds are supposed to be stronger than the parent material. I work for a foreign dealer so I know where we are headed with this. Actually we would cover it, but if we didn't want to we would just say its a result of road damage. Bottom line, the frame/support is not bent, but all the welds are cracked or in the process of cracking... Its going to be a tough sell.....
I am hoping the prospect of a recall (targa top) and a clutch fluid flush i want done (cash pay) will push them to warranty the support... there is no reason they shouldn't. The warranty company being GM pays for the repair, not the individual dealer... its really in the best interest... but they are dumb plain and simple...
I post results tomorrow after a few phone calls.
