I changed the oil in my LS3 Grand sport manual coupe yesterday.
I was cringing about waiting so long for the first oil change (4K miles) but I knew that the dry sump LS3 holds alot of oil so it takes a while to foul up and my oil minder finally got to 50%, so I did!
Three interesting observations.
1. Wow, that's alot of oil (10.5Q)! It just kept coming and coming (it seemed!)
2. There wasn't even so much as a hint of flashing on either of the two drain plugs like my previous LS2.
3. The oil itself "looked" not that black. Don't know what that means, probably nothing, but it sure made me feel better to see that the oil was not totally blacked out at 4K miles!
It means and confirms what other forum members have stated their practice is....every 3k miles change filter and at the 6k mark change both. I have not done that yet because my Z06 only has 1200 miles. But, after the first change I think I will. I do not drive mine competitivly or track it. Just normal driving. Since it holds so much more oil I think it would be o.k.
