way back when, cclive did a writeup on how we should really try out the key several times BEFORE trouble happens and we need it. Reason: it's very stiff in the beginning and needs to be "worked" quite a bit when one is not anxious to get inside. mine were even difficult to get out of the fob!
just take it easy and work it a bit, turn it around, use the other key, etc. and maybe a little lube, too, will help...

Problem solved. Very simple solution to the hatch key problem. It worked fine when I used the proper key. The key I was told to use to open the hatch does not even go with this car.
