Assuming you're talking about a completely stock car:
- drive around the waterbox
- blip the throttle to clean the tires off, don't do a full burnout
- stage as shallow as possible as this will always result in the best ETs
- with your foot on the brake, step on the gas just enough to hear the engine RPMs rise slightly
- leave when you see the last yellow light

And push the pedal down slightly and gradually put the pedal to the floor. Key to a good 1/4 mile is your 60ft. Once you learn to get your car off the line with out spinning the tires you are set
