What ever gave you that idea. You may be missing a point here, we do a different car every other Thursday. If none to do, pull off wheels, clean, detail, or just generally sit around and BS. No waste of time and definitely no waste of effort. This is something we all like to do or we wouldn't be there, it's a camaraderie thing.
Sounds like a great social event, good for you
birds of a feather and all
although one could say, you are the equivalent to a woman's knitting social...
Just have to get that dig in there, don't you. Sorry you don't have a knitting group to get together.
Didn't mean it to be a dig, sounds like a great way to spend time with friends. And you have given me some ideas on garage size and type as I begin to build new next year.
I'll tell you what I think of you alls little get together, it sucks.......that it's not within my driving range! Just bought a clay bar package and plan on doing it soon myself. Sounds like you all have a sweet little thing going on there, congrats on a great idea and making it a reality.

but a better analogy would be leaving Destin Harbor for the Gulf of Mexico. 5 guys going out to catch some big fish. Lots of fun, BS, beer and a little work.
Catch a flight into the new Panama City Beach Airport served by SW and do the analogy. Time it so you can attend the annual Vette show (200+) at Sandestin Resort Sat Oct 23. No oil here and the beaches are AAA, most of the time.

Reason: disclaimer at the end
i like it... great idea. tuesday, i'll have been retired for 3 years.. there is a few of us in our vette club that goes out for lunch during the week, about once a month that are retired.. last month we got together at my house for an oil change party before we went on our national park tour (4000 miles)... so much easier on a lift..
I just received all my Zaino products and was getting ready to start with the clay bar. Then I read Bugman's post on it. He says that the clay actually puts scratches "marring" on the car even when lots of lubrication is used. Then you have to come behind all of that to remove them. Fact or fiction???

I've been clay barring for some time now, haven't experienced any problems with scratching. Secret is turning the clay bar over on itself several times, like playing with a piece of putty, every time you finish a spot, using liberal lubrication with a detailing liquid, and if you drop it on the ground, throw it away and use a new piece. If you see that the clay is loading up with a lot of contaniments, get a new piece.
To get excellent results, preparation is the key. You must have a surface that has no road grease, dirt , or dust on the finish.
Case in point, if you do not clean the very bottom of your rocker panel, and you swipe the clay bar over it, you will pick up grit that will eventually scratch your finish.
All this prep seems like a pain in the azz, but you will be pleased with the results.
Atlas Pro 6MR from www.gregsmithequipment.com weighs about 900 lbs, cost in '07 $1200.00. No installation, has rollers and hand truck for moving (hand truck has motor and hydraulics reservoir).
I think I may have just found my husband's next b-day gift. How deep is the concrete "bed" the lift sits in please?
And I love the way you guys get together with the Vettes. Great idea!

Some of the clay bar kits come with a detailer spray bottle, just use that, works the best in my opinion. And if you're in a hurry and don't have time to machine buff or wax, the detailer has already left a nice shine.
I am debating whether or not to Clay Bar, and here is why.
The car was built in Bowling Green in June. When it arrived at the dealer it was stored INDOORS for 1 month at the GM dealership. It was then purchased in July and never seen rain and has been always garage kept.
I washed the car with a lot of Dawn Concentrated soap. I looked at the finish and it looks very clean, no water spots. I ran the back of my finger across the car and it is as smooth as can be, no rough spots felt like on other cars I had.
After the car left the factory, it never seen rain and it was always stored indoors, even at the dealership. The car is basically brand new.
I am really leaning towards just getting the Zaino 2 applied. I don't see a reason to clay bar because the paint is basically factory fresh.
