Can anyone tell me why every road test in the car magazines say the seats in the C6's are sub-standard ? I get Car & Driver and they really knock them.
They are fine for what the vast majority of owners use the car for. Putt putting around town and down the highway. Start pushing the car to its cornering capability and the seat doesn't hold you in place very well. Most drivers end up using their knees to brace themselves against the G Loads. Things improve a little if the cinch mode of the seatbelt is used. However, even when a 5 or 6 point harness is added the seat doesn't keep the upper body and lower body from pivoting around the lap belt thus you still need to use the knees to brace yourself.
To fix this problem the seat would need higher sides on the bottom and larger side bolsters on the back. The problem with that setup is the seat would fit fewer people and would make it very uncomfortable to get in and out of the car. Anything hanging low would tend to get caught on the sides of the seat bottom with the attendant pain that goes with that.
Because they suck, that's why.No lateral support at all.The seats in my C4 were 1000% better then this junk.I love my Vette and as long as I'm going straight ahead and not taking a turn to hard they're fine. When I decide to let loose a little and go into a turn hard,I need the door to keep me in line.
I understand the C6 is IMO mostly used for a GT cruiser, but it also has the capabilities for a road course track and doing some serious carving and spirited driving.
If GM would have just used the GTO (05/06) seats from Holden (Ausi subsidiary) they would have a perfectly proportioned seat with great bolsters. I went from the GTO to a 09 Vette and I miss the old seats. I agree the seats are the Achilles heal - very average in a superb car.

Yes, totally. I would not care if I would have to use a fork lift to get in my Vette, it would be so worth it.
The stock seats do not lend confidence when carving any turns even at very moderate speeds.
I wonder ( not that any of the electronics would interface ) if the Goat seats would have fit.
I think there would be a market for some decent aftermarket seats.
Nothing totally high end , just somthing that would bolt in and plug and play. Chit I would be willing to lose my side airbags to boot.

I think that the seats are a joke. They're terrible. Not only do they fail at properly supporting the occupants of this high performance car, but they are the most cheaply made seats that I have ever seen. Just awful. The Seats in my BASE '92 are better made, and more suportive than the seats in my '06. That is sad.
Yes, the CTS-V seats are awesome. Even the Gen I CST-V seats are much better. Heck...even '88 Trans Am seats are better! Chevy should do some internal homework.

And the really sad thing is that the sport seats in coupes and convertibles with the adjutable side bolsters are better than the Z06 and ZR1 seats at providing some support. They don't weigh much more than the power seat on the drivers side of a Z06, so why not at least make that available?
I would love to retrofit the CTS Vs Recaros in my Vette.
Lets make GM dial these in for plug and play. Then we do a group buy and give GM input in the field so they can option these seats in the new Vettes. GM sells all kinds of other stuff for the Vette, why not do seats, I totally dont get it. I am going to PM the GM rep on the forum.
( like thats guna go anywhere )

I would almost bet that the CTS Vs seats would be plug and play. I dont see why they would have different connectors. It would just cost GM more money to have different connections. If I ever come across a wrecked CTS V, Ill pick the seats up...

Good idea, with a couple hundred thousand Vettes out there I would bet sombody has done this. I dont care what color the seats are either. ( up to a point ).
If you find a wrecked goat also maybe that would work.
