i've lately bought a 2011 GS convertable.i have noticed(hard not to) heavy brake dust build up on the wheels. is there a cure for this or is it just a function of the GS brakes? i didn't have near this much on my 2008 base coupe. car is at 3000 mi. brakes work fine otherwise. thanks.

 

Alot more surface on the ZO6 rotors. It does it to mine also. Members have been having good luck with the armor all wheel spray which helps alot. You can also replace the pads with ceramic ones.

 

I tried the Armorall Wheel Protectant. At first I was believing that less dust was sticking to the wheels. But I still found myself cleaning the wheels every time I drove the car.

The GS's have the worst brake dust of any car I've ever seen or driven in my 40 years of driving.

So after fighting the dust for around 1000 miles, I changed pads and went with the Hawk Ceramics. Best decision I could have made!

Easy fix. 1 hour 15 minutes work. Problem solved.

And I sold the old pads for almost what I paid for the new ones! (I have another set for sale in the 4 sale section if you know of anyone!)

 

Went with the ceramics too, what a difference.

 

I have used the ceramic poads on the last 4 Corvettes and its about the 1st mod I do. If I buy any more new Corvettes I think part of the deal will be the car has ceramic pads before I ever drive it....

 

That's what I did to stop the brake dust problem.

Boy, I didn't know it until I saw it for myself on my new GS! Guess I will have to look into the ceramic pads options becuz the dust is way too obnoxious to keep cleaning up after them. Another GS owner told me he has 5000 miles on his OE pads and it is still kicking out the dust bunnies.

 

I went with Hawk Ceramics because of the dust...nature of the pads and size.....even with the ceramics I have some... but nothing like stock....

Started using Armoral wheel protectorent and it works very well. Still get only 10% of the dust I used to get that clings to the wheels. I can't justify ceramic pads yet since my 2010 is still too new and original pads do not have enough wear on them.
