Default Drivers Window Problem

I gotta tell you - this site is the best! Yesterday, my drivers window stopped going down all the way. Wouldn't go down beyond about 2 inches of glass still showing. I searched the threads here on the C6 Forum, and found lots of information, mostly focused on how to reindex the windows if the programming is lost for some reason. I tried that, but no effect. Searched some more, and found a thread that talked about the wiring harness coming loose, and catching the lower edge of the glass as it went down. Also found info on how to remove the inner door panel. Got home last night and applied what I learned, and fixed the window myself! Harness HAD come loose and caught the window. The interesting thing is that once I cleared the wiring out of the way, the glass still wouldn't retract all the way down. Reprogramming the indexing wouldn't fix it. I finally disconnected the window motor from the harness, and reconnected it, THEN reprogrammed the indexing - BINGO, all fixed! Thanks to everyone for contributing to this forum - what a great resource!!!

I'm glad you got yours fixed! I was just about to start thread about a problem I discovered with my driver window yesterday afternoon! I don't want to hijack yours but hopefully I can get a solution as quickly as you did.

Anyway, I decided to pull my car out of the garage yesterday, as soon as I opened the driver door the window indexed like it is supposed to when you enter the car.....I sat down in the seat and closed the door and instead of the window rolling itself back up, it went up and down, up and down for about a minute, not completly up and down but just the distance it goes up and down when you enter and exit the car.

I tried everything to get it to stop....finally it did after I kept hitting buttons on the key fob.....don't think that really did anything but it did finally stop, I tried everything......took out the window valet, tried re-indexing the window but as soon as I got it rolled all the way up, it would automatically roll itself back down!

I went to diner last nite and thought I would just disconnect the battery for a while, I was out for a couple of hours, got back home and reconnected the battery......same problem!!

Sorry to steal your thread but your title to this thread is what I was gonna start one with! Hope you don't mind, just hoping someone has suggestion on what I can do to fix this! Thanks in advance! 98ramair

Actually, it sounds like you have the same problem as documented in several other posts. Your issue is likely related to the exterior door switch. Most of the posts I encountered recommended removing the switch and cleaning the contacts, to start with. Seems that the door switch actuates the window index as you press the button to enter the vehicle, and if the contacts don't make properly, create the continuous index problem you are having. Check out some of the other window and index related posts! Good luck!!!

Here's the text from the TSB on the exterior door switch:

If diagnosis confirms the condition is caused by the exterior door handle switch, replace both driver and passenger switches. Be sure to mark which switch comes from the driver and passenger doors. When you clean the door switch contacts, wipe a bit of WD-40 on them to keep them from corroding again. This happens more in humid places.

Thanks guys! I took the advice from the OP and found the info above in a search for driver window problems. I went by the auto parts store at lunch time and picked up some cleaner for the door switch.......went home after that and tried it. Took about 2 mins to get the switch off.....sprayed the connections and reinstalled it, had to do a quick reindexing and presto.....works like new again!!

Thanks for all the help guys, like the OP said, sometimes I don't know what I would do if it weren't for all the help from you guys on the forum!! Thanks again, 98ramair
