I have a 6spd man 2005 coupe and I really want to change the exhaust. I have a 67 chevelle with the FLowmaster American Thunder 3 inch system, with 40 series muffs, that I love. I would hate it if it were my DD, but it is perfect for w/e cruising. This being said, I keep thinking about the FLowmasters for my C6. However, I have never heard them in person....only on Youtube. When I listen to them on Youtube, they do not sound too much different than stock, yet I have seen posts from people on the forum where most people love them, with some saying they are too loud.
My first question is, how much different are they in person, as opposed to what can be heard over a PC?
Is there any comparison to the deep tone of the 3 inch American Thunder system on my Chevelle?
Lastly, I have seen complaints about the tips.....are they really that bad.
I am going to Carlisle and am sersiously considering having a set instatlled, if possilbe while I am there.

I had a set and thought they sounded great. Not too loud, but a nice deep old school tone. There is drone around 1,500 - 1,800 RPM under load. Tips looked fine. The LS series engine will never sound like your Chevelle due to different firing order of the engine. Just a fact of life.
All this said, the install was a major PITA. You absolutely need to have them tack welded in place and even with that I would sometimes get the passenger side over the axle pipe hitting the trans. on sharp right turns. The clamps that are supplied are worthless and the slip over mid pipes are not slotted so the clamps can't compress the joint tight enough even if they were better quality. You get what you pay for is the bottom line here. I took mine off and sold them. Good luck.
Got them on my 2005, 6sp man, Z51 and they have been fine. About half the price of the other guys. Tips are fine and polish up fine with metal polish. I did not install them but was told it was not hard to do. Sound is a nice burble at idle and they come on hard under load. Sound good under acceleration. There is a bit of a drone at 1500-1800 cruising speed but otherwise they have been fun and really add a good sound to the Vette.
I have Flows on mine. Always getting good comments on the sound and other Vette owners asking what they are. I have a sound clip but it does not sound like the car in person. Custom tips. No noises, hitting of parts etc.

Unfortunately, nothing with factory catalytic converters will ever have the sound of the Chevelle. You're going to get some drone in the 1500-1800 range with any of the aftermarket systems. Just rode to Bloomington Gold with a friend with an 05 MN6 with a Corsa system, which is the least drone, and there is still some. IMO, the best sound for a C6 is long tube headers with high flow cats and Corsa/Borla/etc mufflers. Pricey though.
I have the Mid America Quad Cruiser system on my 05 A4. It installs easy, fits well, and looks good including tips. Very deep tone but the drone is pretty bad. Should be much better on MN6 though since you can use a different gear easier. Quite a bit less expensive than the others.
You've got the perfect opportunity to hear a number of systems at Carlisle. I dont think any of them sound like they do on youtube.

I have them on my 05 A4 . Like the others have said slight drone at 1500 RPM's and a nice growl when you put them under a load ! They have a low rumble that people notice when cruising.Mine are the 50 series American Thunders and I am Very pleased with them. For the money and the sound it was the best bang for the bucks.JMO if I had to do it over I would have put DMH Cutouts on mine for just a few $$ more and had the best of both worlds.
I swapped a local vette owner my bullets for his flowmasters (plus other items) as the bullets had too much drone for my tastes. The Flowmasters are a nice compromise. No drone on my 05 MN6 at any rpms, sound great under the gun, and I installed without much effort. Needed to zip-tie my driver-side emergency brake line away from the over the axle pipe, as it would rub occassionally. Thought the bullets looked tougher, but I'm satisfied with the sound and look.

+1, I've found I can live with the drone, plus in 6th at 80 or so, it's pretty quiet, have them on my 09 and really like them, can't beat them for the $$
what is the price some of you are paying? Also can i retain the look of the quad tips?
I dont know if i like single tip for each side???
I have the quad tips and love them so far. Agree with the guys who say there is a bit of a drone in the 1500-1800 rpm range, but it is what it is. Have noticed that I had to retighten the clamps once since I put them on, so I am keeping an eye on that for now. May do the tack weld thing to chimp that down sometime in the future. Have to look and see what I paid, but I know that it was at least 25-30% less than most other systems.
good luck
I had the FM dual tips on my car for a total of 45 minutes. Installed them, drove the car, and the drone was so terrible between 1500 and 2000 rpm you could not hear the radio or carry on a conversation. Drove the car home, removed and returned them. I now have the Corsa Sport Duals and I am very pleased with the sound, and zero drone. You get what you pay for.

Fess up, you also had headers too.
I had them and they sounded great (no headers), really nice on start up and not too loud. Drone was less than I had with Z06 mufflers, and the sound was better. I drove cross country in 3 days and never noticed had any problem with drone.
Install sucked and forget the band clamps they give you to attach the over axel pipe to the mufflers, I used regular old muffler clamps. I paid $379 four years ago from Summit and sold them last year for $200, they were well worth it.
