Default Active Handling

Got the message once again today, "Service Active Handling",2nd time in 2 weeks. Car is handling fine, press the reset button and turn the car off and restart, and the message has cleared. I have had it to the dealer twice before and they say it OK. Should I take it back again and does anyone know if Gov't Motors has come up with a fix yet???

This well documented issue has had TSB's and a Recall issued. It's potentially a life/safety problem.

The quick fix is made to a connector in the steering column and most of the time that is all that's needed.

If you have had this done, then the dealer needs to dig deepr. There are several components that can create problems.

In the mean time, turn off AH/TC when you first start the car, this will prevent any adverse interventions by the system.

Get it fixed ASAP, you may have to find a more competent dealer/mechanic.

I'd read through this...find out if your car fits into the recall year/VIN range and call GM or another dealer if it does. Make sure you don't take no for an answer!

There's a TSB on this issue. I know because I had mine fixed on my 07. The wire harness and connector in the steering column need to be stabalized with a new clip.

I had the same issue with the AH/TC Service coming on. They did the fix in the steering column as wel as reset the brake sensor as the brake pressure needed now with the new Wilwood BBK is much much less.

These two fixes did the trick and all is good again.

I really respect my mechanic. Make sure you find a really good one who is happy to talk to you about your Vette and has a passion for them. It all helps in a better overall experience each and every time you take it in. It also has many side benefits such as not having work done that is not needed and such.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Electrical tape and Duct tape fix everything. I love it. Makes me think of McGyver.

Hello,

I do apologize for the problem you are experiencing. I would suggest getting this into the dealership to have them look at it. If you would like, I am more than happy to check and see if there is an open recall on your vehicle for this issue and assist you with this problem. If you would like me to look into this further, please send me a private message with the following:

First and Last Name:

Telephone Number:

Vin:

Again, I do apologize for this and any inconveniences caused by this.

There is no way to know if his problem is the same as others or not. There are several failure codes that can generate a Service Active Handling message. Not all of them are related to the so called recall. As long as the message is displayed the Active Handling System is deactivated by the EBCM and will not work.

Glad I saw this thread. I have an 08 and the Service Active Handling showed up last week. I thought it was me messing around with the car. I went down this really wide street and hit a dead end. Flipped a fast U-Turn and floored it since nobody was around..then bingo I got the message.

Guess I will call the dealer about this since I have to go there next week to get my new weather stripping put in because the one I have is peeliing

I have a 2005 and around 40k miles the AH message appeared about once a month,as soon as you shut it down and restarted it it disapeared for another month. The recall came out and when it was done by the dealer, no more problems.

Been there, done that, my new dealer just reviewed my warranty history where it showed 4 steering sensors and a clip. He said that we need to look further into this and this is what they did: new steering sensor, harness, and brake moduel. Hopefully, this will solve the problem.
