Default 2010 Outside Temp Reading

Hi

I am running consistently 5-6 degrees high after 15 minutes of adjusting as the manual states. My tech called GM and said the spec is 0 to +7 degrees. I want it more accurate and he will try a new sensor.
My question is how accurate is your 2010 outside reading, thank you very much. There is no calibration on this unit.

My C5 and 2009 C6 always read a little high in the summer. My theory (total guess) is because the temp sensor is lower to the ground than most cars, it picks up the heat off the pavement.

Let me ask this question: Who Cares?

I've never had a car that I trusted the temp reading 100%. It's close. Good enough.

How high would you say it runs after stabilizing?

I care, just sold my 2006 Acura RL which I had for 4 years and it was right on, maybe I got spoiled but that is why I am asking.
Ps if it reads too low you will have problems with the auto system at certain temps.

It's hard to believe that GM would consider a 7* error acceptable. That's a lot. When first started it seems that mine still reads the last reading before the ignition was turned off. It also reads warmer when the car is standing still for a time or when first started after it's hot. A few minutes of driving settles things down.

Here is a link to a thread where the reset button sequence is mentioned that was previously posted by Talon90.

Make sure the sensor is not installed backwards or incorrectly.

This seems silly , but I compare it to my Iphone weather, my computer weather reports, radio , weather on the tv, plus our weather temp in Sarasota is very consistent.

how do you know those are accurate? Where are they taking the readings? Up hear in Billings, the readings are all taken from atop the First Interstate Building which up off the pavement and in the air.

I'm sure your temperature reading is correct for where the sensor is located. I always tell people, How Can a Thermometer be wrong? It's just a matter of where the sample is taken. Close to the pavement and near the engine means a higher temp.

Check the banks. They're always different. Doesn't mean they're wrong. Just means that the sensor reads the temperature of where it's placed.

Well, a thermometer can be wrong. But usually, not by much.

If we have ten C5 and C6 Corvettes driving along the highway in a convoy and start comparing temperatures on the radio, there will usually be a range of about 4 degrees from the coolest to the hottest.

If I'm driving behind my wife's Toyota and we compare temperatures, she usually reads about 3 degrees higher than my C6.

As you mentioned, no way to be sure which numbers are correct.

Please give me some credit, I am 59 and realize that bank readings are skewed by the sun, those are not accurate reading most of the time, my reading is about 5-6 degrees high all the time. For example after about 15 minutes of driving to give the sensor time to properly reevaluate I am at 97 and we never got about 92 for the day per the weather on the news, also, I check local weather on my Iphone and get the same 92 degrees. Can't believe I had to explain all of this.

Funny stuff!

Hope you get your "issue" fixed. Good luck!
