I am the proud new owner of a 2006 Z06, and I would like to know if anyone can answer some questions I have about tuning. Can you folks tell me if the hand held tuners are a worth while investment, or is it better to take the car somewhere? I have herd of online tuning, but to get the most out of the car will this work or do you need a dyno? I don't want anything to aggressive, but I've herd that there is 30-40 HP just waiting to be tapped into without hurting the car. The warranty is up so that’s not an issue.
Congrats! Go get the vette tuned, no handhelds! They are generic tunes and dont allow for as much tweaking as on a dyno. There are a few vendors here on the forum that are wizards with tuning, If you can go without your vette you can even send your ecm out to be tuned if you dont live near a qualified shop. Post your location and others will be able to help you further.
A dyno tune is in the neighborhood of $500 but worth it. I had a few other bolt on mods done at the same time with the tune and got 75 more horses to the rear wheels.

Handhelds are a waste of time....
If you make an easy day trip out of it, I can take care of it for you and we're gonna do the CARLISLE discounted pricing for all products through the end of Sept.
However, the handheld ones are getting pretty cheap and if you ever throw a code at least you can look and see what it is before you talk to the mechanic.
so how much would a higher flowing exhaust (just a CBE) and a tune gain us? And is an aftermarket intake worth it? And if so how much would it gain too with the exhaust and tune?

you may want to start your own thread with these q.s. I also had to think what is CBE. make it easy.
There is not 30-40 hp to be gained on an LS7 with a tune only. You'll pick up 15-18,if you're lucky.Wait until you have some mods to go with it to make it worthwhile.
Unless you just want to squeeze every last drop from it as it sits. But you will not have any sotp gain.

Yes there is - With my LS7 I picked up 33rwhp from the tune I built at the drag strip using HP Tuners and my NGK wideband O2 sensor. When I had the car dynoed shortly after doing the LS7 swap, I did the first couple of pulls using the stock GM tune and then the next few using my tune and the car went from 426rwhp to 459 rwhp.
That tune was also good for 2/10ths at the track as I went from running 10.8's to 10.6's in a single pass when I got the AFR dialed in properly since the car runs really rich from the factory.

Good to know....the last time I had an LS7 tuned was back in early 06 when they hadn't been out that long. After three hours of dyno/street tuning all we managed was 12 rwhp. Glad to see they've progressed.
