Default TPMS Question

Last week I got this 2006 convertible with 40K miles on it. It has just started giving me messages in the DIC that a couple of tires have low pressure and one tire has too high pressure. Using my tire gauge I measure them to all to be where I want them, about 40 psi. At this age, is it likely that all of the sensors are on their way out and need replacement? Are there codes in the computer that might show a different problem?

40 psi seems really high? Go by the sticker on your door jam. Those numbers are put there for tire life, based on vehicle weight & tire size. At higher than recommend psi, you are going to wear your tires out on the center quickly, plus you will affect your handling, and ride. Try putting in the recommended psi and then see what your DIC says? If you know that there are where they should be and you still have a low warning, then I am guessing you have a bad sensor. Put 30 (cold) in all four and then drive it for a few minutes to allow the sensors to read and see what you get. The sensors won't send new readings until the car is driven.

First thing to do is to get your tires to the correct pressure; 30#'s. Get the correct pressure in the tires and see what the DIC says then.

40#'s is way too high, it'll give you a harsh ride and poor control + tire wear.

you have reduced your contact patch, you have reduced your tires ability to flex properly which affects directional changes, traction, and shedding possible debris causing a flat... run the O.E. pressure. Its there for a good reason.

OK, I can see the consensus is that I'm running too high pressure. I fixed that by lowering it to 30 psi in each tire.

Low and behold, the readings in the DIC for each tire was 29 or 30 psi and they stayed there for the 30 or so minutes that I drove the car.

However, I hit a small bump and I immediately got a message that the left front tire was flat. A couple of minutes later the DIC showed the pressure back to 30 psi. Do I need to replace the tire pressure sensor?

Soinds like it. Something loose for sure. I'm not 100% sure just how they work, but cheap enough to replace it.
