Default Very small windshield chips

On my way home on I75 yesterday, I suddenly noticed that my car was being pelted by sand or small rocks. There were no dump trucks in sight, only cars. I assume some truck dropped sand or gravel on the road and it was being flung up by tires on cars in front of me. When I got home, I found about 5 very small chips in the surface of my windshield. Is there a good way to fill those? They aren't bad enough to have Safelite drill them out and fill them with resin. They are small, and to me, noticeable.

Sadly, my advice is get used to it.
You'll get some big chips to be repaired sooner or later, after a while I plan on replacing the whole thing.

These windshields are prone to little tiny nicks, you notice them most when the sun hits the windshield at the right angles.

We had the windshield replaced on our C5, and let's just say that things can go wrong. In our case, a nasty water leak that wasn't discovered until months later. But i would still consider automatically replacing the windshield at 100k miles on a car that I liked.

Concur. I'm on my second windshield on my 06, and it is now full of pits and chips. This is an ongoing issue with Vettes. The glass evidently is too soft.

The low ride height of the Vette along with the rake angle of the windsheild makes the car prone to chips, instead of having the conventional front grill on most vehicles to take the hit.

Well, they may be a bit soft and I'm sure the rake adds to the problem. I have driven I75 to work and back for 10 years and I have had 5 new windshields, one after a piece of scrap metal fell off a truck and nearly took the top of my head off in my S2000. I guess if I keep the car longer than my usual 2 years, I'll be getting a new windshield.

If this were my car I would go ahead with the WS repair method. As I recall I think this will fall under one claim and 1 comp deductible. Then, most companies waive some or all of your deductible for doing the rpairs. If you elect to replace the WS it probably wont be long before you pick up some more nicks so you could find yourself back in the same condition. Good Luck...

Comments about soft glass and slope of the windshield: I believe all vehicles get it. My 2005 at 23K is beginning to show signs of the small chips, but not yet in the nose. My 2007 Camry at 24K shows way too many chips...almost ready for replacement. Old 2003 Avalon with second glass shows too much damage at 40K. Actually "soft" glass would NOT show the nicks and chips as much as "hard" glass which is more brittle. I don't think any vehicle is immune, it's just a matter of where you drive and how much junk is on the road. By buddie's 08 Vettte has perfect glass, of course it has less than 3K miles on it.

We will continue to have problems as long as they let dump trucks drive with their loads not covered, even when they are empty.

Chips are so common in Utah. It doesn't matter how you drive. I received one from someone that cut right in front of me, another from a dump truck 4 lanes over. He was spilling so much crap on the road and only driving about 45mph in a 65mph zone.

I loved Germany. Roads were generally clean (no gators, few if any rocks) and you can get the license plate of the rock thrower and let your insurance company go after their insurance for the claim.

Happens on all cars now. Doesn't matter what you drive, not so much on SUVs. Higher up and tend to have the lower front end pelted more than the window.

Just another downfall of having a car that's low to the ground just like your front end dragging, curbs taking out front spoiler, and curb rash and trying to park in between two cars if needed because of poor visability in front and rear bumpers. These Corvettes are just more susceptible to these problems over regular vehicles at stand higher.

Here in Florida, often there are dump trucks with their covers flapping and dirt being sucked out from under the loose cover. Some don't even have the covers in place. During orange harvest season, we have orange trucks heading to Tropicana. Most of these rigs have poor brakes, possibly illegal immigrant drivers, no mud flaps and they are dropping oranges which, if you are too close, hit the front of your car.
So far, I haven't had to dodge any gators.

My car has a number of very small chips in the windshield. They are most visible when I have just washed the car and in bright sunlight.

From the above posts, it looks like a lot of people have this problem.

go here: www.windshielddoctor.com then click on "windshield repair resins" - look for "easy flow pit filler" basically, you put a small drop, small enough to fill the pit,- use a straight, single edge razor blade as a squeegee to remove the excess, and let the sun's UV rays cure it. hope this helps...

Yep, get used to it. My 09 Vert has 43k on it and I'm on my forth windshield. They are really soft and pit very easily so I don't try to fix them, I have them replaced with new glass.
