Earlier this year, I wrote up my difficulties in trying to buy a new Grand Sport. (The order was cancelled after a few weeks because of an allocation problem) Many of you responded with a lot of encouragement and counseled patience and I appreciated that.
Here is what happened after that post at the end of April. We finally gave up on a 2010, mostly because I wanted the Museum Delivery. None of the dealers would guarantee a price for a 2011, so we decided to wait and order when the pricing was firm. I contacted 4 local dealers, told them what I wanted and said to let me know when I could place an order. Right after that, I saw the almost perfect game pitcher get a new GS convertible. I thought I must be going about this wrong by trying to buy a Vette, I'll just wait until someone gives me one. Well, that doesn't work either.
One salesman, Rod Stalter at Gill Chevrolet in Columbus, called me the first of July with all the details firm so we finally ordered a 2011. We figured delivery in 6weeks, hot damn! Following events online I quickly learned that if you ordered the F55 suspension and manual transmission (how did you guess?) your order is on indefinite hold. Many gloomy days followed until at last we got a build date, Aug 23, (thanks Ken Fichtner Fichtner Chevrolet for tirelessly looking up order numbers).
Wait a minute, hold on there Tex, the Museum delivery puts a two week hold on the car after its built making delivery Mon Sept 6 but whoops, that’s the Labor day weekend, so maybe it will be ready on Sept 7th. By then my heart gave out and my last nerve left town. But now its September at last and its Labor Day weekend, we have reservations at Drury Inn in Bowling Green, the bags are packed and we're ready to go. So I’ll tune in the Museum web cams and look for a black GS convertible...what's that...hall of fame weekend...tables...vendors...where are the customer cars? I could just spit. Oh well, we're going to be there Tuesday morning at 7:45am and hope for the best. PS. The rental is a one way so if the car doesn’t show, we may need a ride back to Ohio.
BTW, special thanks to Lori at the museum for answering many questions, making arrangements and helping out with an always super friendly attitude.
Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!! Patience is a virtue. Sometimes the things that are the most difficult to achieve are the most appreciated. Enjoy the adventure, looking forward to pics of that beauty.
congratulations, you will thoroughly enjoy your car. patience makes everything sweeter when you actually get what you want. the combination of f55 w/ manual transmission is awesome (but i am biased).
Congrats, but curious, other than being a Black GS vert. what is the color combo of the interior? The reason I ask is my local dealer has one sitting on his showroom floor No waiting.
Congratulations! You will not be able to wipe that smile off you face for weeks after getting your GS, having the Museum experience, and then driving your new car home.

You will be treated like royalty at the museum. Well worth the wait. And you would have had the same 2 week wait (maybe longer) if it was delivered to the dealer instead of the museum.
